Besides the occasional program using the sonata form, or a musical piece based on the Fibonacci sequence, what could they possibly find in common besides a vast resource of incompatible jargon? The answer to the second question lies simply within the realm of live electro-acoustic music, the use of technology to create sound within the context of a live performance.
by Jacque Oldfield Daily Lobo UNM's Masley Art Gallery unveiled the Art Education Alumni Exhibit on Tuesday, March 11 featuring over 50 works by 35 different alumni artists. Masley Gallery Curator Melissa Bruce and Gallery Faculty Director Linney Wix assembled the collection and had the difficult job of selecting which pieces would be displayed in the scant 800 square foot gallery space.
The Quails rocked the house on Tuesday night at the Launchpad -- in a very formulaic way. Early 1990s Seattle-area bands such as Bikini Kill, Le Tigre and the Breeders quite obviously heavily influence the trio from San Francisco. The Quails put a twist on the genre and, get ready for this, there's a man in the band.
The critically acclaimed Aquila Theatre Company made a stop at Popejoy to perform William Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream," Saturday. Though Shakespeare is known as a master of expressing human emotion, "A Midsummer Night's Dream" is his equivalent of a Marx Brothers movie.

In spite of the glances from conservative peers and jaded comments to "grow up already," the unthinkable has happened.
A recent business trip landed me in New York City for a weekend where I filled my days and nights studying marketing and business strategies. Just kidding. It was just a shallow excuse for me to go to a lot of Broadway shows. The first show I saw was "Ma Rainey's Black Bottom," a play with a little music about the effects of racism on its victims.
The show on display at the UNM Art Museum, "Highlights of the Collection," is too rich to see in just one visit. In spite of the depth of the collection, on many days the museum is almost empty. "More people nationally and internationally know about this collection than people on campus," said Michael Certo, curator of the education and public programs for the museum.

The Lanchpad, Albuquerque’s premier venue for local and up-and-coming bands, played host last Saturday to Rock Out of The Box: Volume one compilation CD party. The doors opened at 4 p.m. for the eight-hour show that featured nine of the 13 bands who lent their talents to the compilation.

Edna Walsh's "Bedbound" just had a run in New York City at the Irish Repertory Theatre. It now comes to off-Broadway Albuquerque with a different cast and crew to kick off The Cell's second season.
Like the bomb it gets its name from, Molotov is made from simple ingredients -- rock, underground rap, mainstream rap, dance music and equal parts English, Spanish and Chilango. And it's explosive. On its third CD release Dance and Dense Denso, the Mexico City-based quartet defies categorization, tweaking with styles and sounds as easily as some musicians tweak the levels on their amplifiers.
On Monday, a worldwide cry for peace was made with a 2,500 year-old play performed in 60 countries more than a thousand times. The play, "Lysistrata," was written by Greek playwright Aristophanes in 411 B.C. and tells the story of Grecian women deciding to end the Peloponnesian War by withholding sex from their partners.
