UNM's Hispanic community: We will never surrender!

Editor, Thank you all for commenting on the opinion letter written by Patricia Roybal Caballero. Hopefully you can be present during a DREAM Act forum where the League of United Latin American Citizens will be sponsoring the event alongside El Centro de la Raza, and MexSA sometime in April.

UNM athletes they're exempt from everything

Editor, A week ago, a student walked into class 30 minutes late, sat down, opened a bag of chips and started to text without any regard to how disruptive his actions were — much less the disrespect he showed toward the professor. The professor asked the student for his name and the student lied and gave the professor a fake name.

Allowing different opinions on campus helps broaden views

Editor, In response to David Luna’s letter in the Daily Lobo on Monday, “UNM should not allow hatemongering on campus,” I wish to add a different argument as to why Shawn the Baptist should be allowed to speak on campus. You cannot use the argument of free speech without accepting the term in its entirety.

Lobo readers need to chill out and ease up on the paranoia

Editor, I want to comment on two of the letters in the Feb. 4 opinion section — “9/11 an inside job” and “Daily Lobo a waste of paper” — two letters that, if truly representative of UNM’s student population, would make me ashamed to be a student here. The latter, “Daily Lobo a waste of paper” was just mean-spirited and sweepingly dismissive, because an error or two had slipped into print the entire paper was worthless.

Fire-and-brimstone preacher was just speaking the truth

Editor, In response to David Luna’s letter in the Lobo on Monday, “UNM should not allow hatemongering on campus:” First off, David, in your letter you said we all understand free speech and freedom to worship, but this doesn’t give us a license to say whatever we want whenever we want. Excuse me, but, yes it does. You also said Shawn the Baptist continued to tell the UNM community, and not just homosexuals this time, that God abhorred them because they were sinners and that they were doomed to spend eternity in hell because of the way they lived their lives.

ASUNM repeats history by ignoring constituents

Editor, It’s funny how some of ASUNM Sen. Sean Mallory’s quotes in “ASUNM resolution cites Athletics’ accomplishments” echoes words in an Albuquerque Journal op-ed signed by President David Schmidly – both published Friday. I’m glad that Mallory took my advice that ASUNM should chime in on UNM Athletics.

GPSA's special election votes have no real meaning

Editor, As much coverage as the Graduate and Professional Student Association/Athletics Department issue has gotten at the Daily Lobo, it seems that close attention should have been paid to the way the graphs were labeled.
