Behind solid singles play, the UNM men's tennis team ousted rival New Mexico State University 6-1 on Saturday. With the win, No. 67 UNM improves to 9-4 on the season, and 84-9 all-time against NMSU.

Letter: Anti-abortionists should offer realistic alternatives

The arguments made in favor of anti-abortion legislation range from offensive to absurd. For the remainder of this letter, however, let us neglect the audacity of our society, legal system and state-sponsored Christian doctrine to dictate to a woman what she can and cannot do with her own body. We will consider only more concrete issues.

Deaf Saudi signs of change

Hend Al-Showaier faced difficulties as a woman growing up deaf in Saudi Arabia. In a lecture Thursday at the Humanities building to 66 people, Al-Showaier discussed problems that came her way as she went through public school in the Middle East. She said, through a sign language interpreter, there were few resources available for deaf children and few schools were equipped to handle her.

Tuition hike the focus of Budget Summit

At today's Budget Summit, the University will be looking at possible tuition increases for next year. Five campus groups submitted proposals to the president's office last week that will be discussed at the summit.

Women in science and engineering gathered to discuss the challenges they face every day in the workforce at a forum Wednesday in the SUB. In a male-dominated industry, women need role models, said Anita Obermeier, forum coordinator and director of the Feminist Research Institute at UNM.

Fair held to inspire talk of peace

Student Desi Brown said UNM's Peace and Justice Fair began last year to get people to discuss peace. "It isn't just a five-letter word. We can talk about it," said Brown, president of Students Organizing Action for Peace.
