Top teams face hard course

by David J. Chavez Daily Lobo The University of New Mexico men's golf team is taking on a tough course and tough competition this weekend. The Lobos' lineup for this weekend's William H. Tucker Intercollegiate tournament at the UNM Championship Golf Course includes Mark Anderson, Jay Choi, Charlie Beljan, Robb Bierbaum and Nick Geyer.

In-state showdown

by Daniel S. Archuleta Daily Lobo Kole McKamey said the UNM football team's 2-0 record means nothing coming into the Lobos' annual matchup with in-state rival New Mexico State on Saturday. "When it comes time to play this game, win-loss records never come up," he said.

Team hopes to surf wave of wins on home turf

by Riley Bauling Daily Lobo The senior captain on the UNM men's soccer team stopped just short of guaranteeing two home wins this weekend for the Lobos. "We haven't lost a game at home since the UNLV game my sophomore year," Brandon Moss said. "In a sense, it's almost two guaranteed wins.

Letter: White House should face more criticism for Katrina

Editor, Ann Coulter once said her only regret about Timothy McVeigh is that he didn't visit the New York Times building. Perhaps Dane Roberts agrees with her. In his column criticizing the paper for its "incredibly myopic and self-serving" blaming of the Bush administration for the response to Hurricane Katrina, his word choice is much more revelatory than his so-called forward-looking solutions.

But for Ortiz, who is one of a pair of DJs who started a dance night called the Snugfit Social Club, a diverse range of albums is prerequisite to being a DJ.

Break dancers draw out donations

by Scott Albright Daily Lobo The Barelas Community Center will see DJs spinning and mixing the night away at the "Battle for Katrina." The show will support victims of Hurricane Katrina. Local performers Garbage Pail Kidz, 2bers, GWH and special guests will be on stage while B-boys and girls break dance on the floor to show their support for those suffering from the disaster.

Letter: High-level officials should be tested before being hired

Editor, One has to wonder how Michael Brown, the head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, was able to keep his job for as long as he did after the atrocious handling of the situation in New Orleans. What bothers me is that he stepped down only after being asked to return to Washington.

Peter Simonson, the executive director of New Mexico's ACLU, said McKay has crossed the line when it comes to separating his religion and his coaching.

Artists show off miniatures

by David Barnes Daily Lobo Hundreds of works of art will be displayed at the Albuquerque Museum's miniature exhibition and fund-raiser. Elias Rivera, who was born in New York before moving to Santa Fe in the early 1980s, has become internationally known for his figurative paintings.
