LETTER: Protestors rally in cold, wind or rain

Editor, Jonathan's Kahn's letter on March 31 about protesters shows that students are paying attention to both supporters of war and peace, and that fact in itself is heartening. However, his pointing fingers at one group of individuals needs response.

Symposium to feature composers

Composers have invaded the UNM campus - the 32nd annual John Donald Robb Composers' Symposium began Sunday, featuring composition seminars, demonstrations and panel discussions with visiting composers and music department faculty. Student composers are encouraged to attend and ask questions as part of the "Meet the Composers" series.

Premed organization inducts UNM chapter

In a ritualistic ceremony Monday, the Alpha Epsilon Delta premedical honor society adopted its newest chapter at UNM and initiated its first members into the organization. Charles Rose, an AED alumnus from Brigham Young University, presented the 12 premedical students with their certificates and said they should feel proud.

Newly appointed UNM Regent Donald H. Salazar, 56, died Friday after a battle with thyroid cancer that had spread throughout his body. Salazar, who was a lawyer in the Santa Fe law firm of Rubin, Katz, Salazar, Alley, Rouse and Herdman, was appointed by Gov.

Community honors activist

Hundreds of people gathered Saturday in a peace march to celebrate CÇsar Chavez month. The march, like Chavez, was non-violent and strong - only fitting in these turbulent times. After the march, people gathered at the CÇsar Chavez Community Center in honor of the man who inspired so many with grace and humility.

War supporters honor soldiers

More than 3,000 Albuquerque community members expressed support for U.S. soldiers fighting abroad Friday at Civic Plaza. Two F-16 warplanes from Kirtland Air Force Base roared overhead as the crowd cheered “USA” and displayed patriotism by distributing yellow ribbons and “support our troops” bumper stickers.

LETTER: War contradictory to health

On Thursday, March 27, there was a health fair in front of Zimmerman Library. Amidst tables offering massages and fruit smoothies was a table promoting support of the U.S. war against Iraq. War is an outrageous contradiction of health.

1st outdoor track event meets with assorted success

by Todd Burns Daily Lobo The UNM and the University of Texas-El Paso track teams squared off in a meet in El Paso last weekend. It was the first outdoor track meet of the season for the Lobos and resulted in many great performances. The first outdoor meet was canceled due to poor weather conditions, but that did not hold sophomore Amanda Barnes back in her three wins.

Carlos E. Santiago said he will bring a variety of perspectives to UNM if chosen as the University's next president. "I've been very involved in fundraising and capital development," Santiago said. "I know all the aspects of running a large research university.

Law lecturer appointed to education commission

A UNM School of Law School lecturer has recently been given an opportunity to help improve postsecondary and higher education throughout New Mexico by being named to the New Mexico Commission on Higher Education. Raquel Montoya-Lewis, in her third year at UNM, said that she plans to use her position as a voice for American Indians throughout the state.

Athletes of the week

Senior baseball player Dusty Young and sophomore Amanda Barnes of the women’s track team are this week’s New Mexico Daily Lobo Athletes of the Week. Young led UNM to a three game sweep of Texas A&M Corpus Christi this weekend as the team improved to 22-10.

LETTER: Protesters: learn to weather cold wind

Editor, Seeing protesters by the UNM Bookstore night after night is annoying, but I respect their right to voice their opinions. Seeing the “Skinheads For the USA” on March 26 was surprising, but I applaud their support of our troops. Seeing only the skinheads on March 27, however, was just plain shocking.

LETTER: Police busts on parties need not be aggressive

Editor, In my three long years of college I’ve been to my fair share of parties, of which a fair share have been broken up by the cops. All of my police encounters involved with parties have been business as usual, until about 15 minutes ago. I was at a party at a good friend of mine’s house, which was incidentally broken up by the cops.
