Forum focuses on dangers of cyber stalking

Kids growing up in the Internet age might be exposed to cyber stalking when they surf the Web, Mayor Martin Chavez said. "It's particularly problematic because oftentimes, to parents and grandparents, this type of crime is very frightening, because older generations simply don't understand technology as well as their children and grandchildren," Chavez said.

Errors cost UNM in rivalry game

It was a see-saw game for the UNM baseball team against in-state rival New Mexico State on Tuesday at Isotopes Park. Despite out-hitting the Aggies 14-9, the Lobos ended up on the losing side of a ninth-inning rally for a 5-4 loss. UNM is now 13-3 on the season, while NMSU has improved to 11-1.

Question & Answer

He's not quite looking for Martians, but the Daily Lobo was intrigued enough to ask Horton Newsom, research professor at UNM's Institute of Meteoritics, about his research dealing with the red planet. Newsom is on the team of scientists that will launch the next Mars rover in 2012.

Amy Beggin scored 18 points, all in the first half, to push the Lobos over the Falcons on Tuesday at the Thomas and Mack Center. Beggin rested on the bench for most of the second half.

Beggin for mercy

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - As the most experienced ball handler and a leader on the UNM women's basketball team, the pressure was on Amy Beggin to set the tone in the Mountain West Conference Tournament. In Tuesday's opening round, she obliged, pumping in 18 first-half points in an 84-41 victory over No.

Krebs' motives questionable in request for Long's resignation

Editor, The recent revelation printed in Saturday's Albuquerque Journal that UNM Vice President of Athletics Paul Krebs asked Rocky Long to resign raises serious questions that deserve answers. It is beyond comprehension how Krebs could commit the University to a new contract just three months prior to asking for Long's resignation.

Gov. Bill Richardson speaks to the media by the SUB on Tuesday. Richardson met with faculty representatives to discuss their concerns about University resources being spent on administration instead of academics.

Gov. Bill Richardson visited UNM on Tuesday and said he would support the addition of a regent faculty member, but he doesn't plan to withdraw his reappointment of Regents President Jamie Koch. Faculty members representing the Faculty Senate, Faculty Governance Committee and various campus departments met with Richardson and opened a dialogue on issues including the reappointment of Koch and an external audit of the University's finances.

Blaming President Obama for ill economy is laughable

Editor, I'd like to thank Dixon Duval for his comic piece in Monday's Daily Lobo. I couldn't help but laugh at his characterization of President Barack Obama as some sort of economic villain bent on destroying prosperity and turning America into a socialist dystopia.

Steve Alford: MWC Men's Basketball Coach of the Year

When Steve Alford was named UNM men's basketball head coach in March 2007, he talked about building a program that would put the Lobos in the national spotlight. Two years into his career, Alford is on his way. On Monday, he was recognized by the Mountain West Conference as the league's 2008-09 Coach of the Year.

Financial collapse result of policies that rewarded greed

Editor, Dixon Duval's guest column in Monday's Daily Lobo contains a couple of misleading statements. First is his intimation that we can now shift the blame for our wallowing economy from President Bush to President Obama. While he slips in a statement that the "disappearance of wealth cannot be blamed only on the previous administration," suggesting shared blame, the remainder of his statements lay the fault solely on Obama.

'Watchmen' a dose of Cold War paranoia

Is it possible that an Alan Moore comic has finally been turned into a movie Moore will be happy with? That's probably a bit of a stretch, but "Watchmen" is certainly a movie that any fan of the graphic novel should be fairly happy with. It sticks to the comic faithfully, though some changes to the ending were made, probably to make the story more cinematic.

Daily Lobo: Why paramedic? Robbie Pulliam: I just like helping out people. I'm not doing it for the money, because the pay for it, like the average, is $23,000. So, yeah, I just like helping out people. I'll probably go into firefighting, something like that.

While the economy crumbles, executives continue to spend

Editor, Where to begin? Let's just say that the sum total of your ignorance, Dixon Duval, is almost impressive. "This is happening on Obama's watch." Exactly how long does Duval think that the failed policies of what he is supporting take to play out and then correct? "To deprive or prevent executives of their.

Opinion

Hard work, not benefactors of cronyism, should be rewarded

Editor, I find Dixon Duval's column Monday to be majorly flawed. Yes, poor executives, how dare we say they can make only so much money. They won't want to work hard anymore. As if they really work hard. They bankrupt the company or bank and catch a golden parachute plus multi-million-dollar bonuses just for screwing up.

Lobos lace up for tourney after win

Wyoming came out flatter than the Great Plains. And the UNM women's basketball team lassoed the Cowgirls, turning in a 63-45 victory in its season finale at The Pit on Saturday. The Lobos had the game lucked up in the opening six minutes of the first half after wheeling to an 18-2 lead, but UNM routinely took off plays in the second half.

After weak start, Lobos claim share of MWC title

Steve Alford looked like a champion when he walked out of the Rudy Davalos Basketball Center on Sunday after the Lobos returned from Laramie, Wyo. The UNM men's basketball head coach was decked out from head to toe. A cherry, button-up Oxford shirt contrasted nicely against Alford's black slacks.
