Editor, This letter is in response to your article, “GOP: Immigrants are a threat to U.S.” in Wednesday’s Daily Lobo. Being a registered Republican, I would like to point out that many Republicans are not against immigrants or immigration itself, though there are several who are.
There are some things in life that are very hard to get. A passing grade in calculus, a hot body and discounted Lululemon are just a few, but one of the hardest things to get can be a second date.
Let’s talk about student fees. This academic year, the average undergraduate at UNM’s main campus is paying about $5,000 in tuition and $1,440 in fees. The net revenue of these mandatory student fees (not including special course fees) is about $30 million.

Our governor, Susanna Martinez, is one of the most likable public figures in the Republican Party. For a party that has lost its way with women, Hispanics, moderates and many others, Governor Martinez seems a God-send.
I appreciate Don Schrader’s loud voice against violence. What I don’t appreciate is his use of opinion as fact. There has been no illegal occupation by Israel. Say what you want, but all international law supports Israel. While Don mentions his opposition to violence by Palestinians against Israel, those words fall flat; spoken at the end, in a manner that seems to be an effort to appease some.
February is African American History Month. African Americans have had a very difficult time in the U.S. They were treated as less than human, bought and sold as slaves, separated from families, abused, killed, denied an education, denied the right to vote, segregated and experienced many other evils. It is a sad history and a reflection of the viciousness and cruelty of one group of human beings toward another, all in the name of rights.

Editor, I am a UNM undergrad writing in response to Don Schrader’s letter in Tuesday’s Daily Lobo. While we all, Schrader included, are entitled to our own opinions, no one is entitled to his or her own facts.
As a medical student I had the great fortune to spend a winter in Beijing, China, at an urban children’s hospital that used traditional Chinese medicine as well as modern Western methods. Eager to learn all I could, I asked one of the doctors to give me an acupuncture treatment.

Editor, In last Wednesday’s Daily Lobo the above-the-fold article, “Term ‘illegal’ raises furor,” was about future seminarian for the Archdiocese of Santa Fe and current ASUNM Senator Colt Balok using the non-Catholic term of ‘illegal’ regarding the driver’s license debate.
Editor, What is with all these gangs on campus? Somehow, overnight, everywhere I look, there are gangs! Gangs, gangs, and then, just when I think we’re all out of gangs, more gangs!

Over the last few months on Twitter I’ve been noticing a lot of comments concerning the sudden “revelation” that the Affordable Care Act doesn’t magically grant everyone in the nation free health insurance.
