They’ve been doubted. They’ve been snubbed. They’ve heard it all when it comes to their chances of ever having success. So, it’s nothing new for the New Mexico men’s soccer team to be considered underdogs heading into a season, conference play or a tournament.

Behind five double-digit scorers, the New Mexico men’s basketball team wrapped up its three-game exhibition tour in Australia Sunday with an 82-80 victory over the Gold Coast All-Stars.

Junior center Alex Kirk scored 26 points, including nine in the fourth quarter, to lead the New Mexico men’s basketball team to a 78-66 victory over the Kilsyth Cobras in Melbourne, Australia, Thursday, according to a release.

Lobos believe in Davie’s program

Fans and the media might not yet be buying into the New Mexico football team, but its players are. At the team’s media day Aug. 1, head coach Bob Davie said all 115 players on the roster have decided to stay at UNM: a 100 percent retention rate, a rarity in college sports.

UNM men take first Australian exhibition

Kicking off a three-game exhibition tour in Australia Monday, the New Mexico men’s basketball team overcame an 11-point second-half deficit Monday to beat the Sydney Kings 87-85 at Bankstown Basketball Stadium in Sydney, according to a press release.




	The Lobos held their first practice of the season Thursday after reporting back to UNM on Wednesday. Cole is one of five quarterbacks on the roster.

UNM opens training camp with Gautsche as starter

During Wednesday’s media-day event at the Tow Diehm Complex, a reporter asked New Mexico football coach Bob Davie if quarterback Cole Gautsche will be a starter heading into training camp. Davie, standing at the podium, turned to his sophomore signal-caller seated off-camera and said “Cole? You going to jump out there with that first group?” That’s the plan, Davie said.

New Mexico offensive lineman Dillon Farrell may be a little insane, he said. But when people ask him about the upcoming 2013 football season, he replies by saying his goal is to win every game on the schedule.

Kirk talks Kazan, basketball politics

New Mexico center Alex Kirk and forward Cameron Bairstow finished their runs at the World University Games in Kazan, Russia on Thursday. Bairstow played for the silver medal-winning Australian team, and he averaged a team-leading 12.8 points and 6.8 rebounds per game.

UNM men boast strong nonconference hoops slate

If the nonconference schedule is any indication, coach Craig Neal’s Lobos won’t shy away from tough competition this coming season. New Mexico will play at least four non-Mountain West teams that reached last spring’s NCAA tournament, all over the course of 17 days.

There was never any doubt as to who the crowd was cheering for at the inaugural El Border Clásico at University Stadium Friday. In front of 9,042 fans, Santos Laguna, a Liga MX team, defeated Major League Soccer’s Colorado Rapids 2-1.

CO team meets Mexico halfway

As rain began to fall at University Stadium Friday night, Néstor Calderón secured El Border Clásico for Santos Laguna. Calderón’s goal came at the 77-minute mark and pushed the Liga MX team to a 2-1 victory over the Colorado Rapids, a Major League Soccer franchise.
