Final home meet a disappointment

The UNM swimming and diving team planned to give its departing members a victory in its home finale. However, the visiting Utah Utes were unwilling to make any concessions on UNM's Senior Day.

Diver to reach new heights this season

Carrie Quinn is not satisfied with last season. Last year, Quinn placed fourth on the 1-meter springboard and eighth on the 3-meter springboard at the Mountain West Conference Championships in Oklahoma City. This season, UNM's junior diver is training hard to improve on both finishes.

After starting conference play 1-3 and losing back-to-back conference home games for the first time in 14 years, the UNM women's basketball team needed a win in the worst way. Column: Game-winning field goal to send Colts to Super Bowl

With the New Orleans Saints marching into Chicago to play the Bears, and the New England Patriots set to face the Indianapolis Colts, football fans are in for a treat this weekend. I can't wait to see if the Saints can continue to keep the city of New Orleans energized by their great play, and I'm also looking forward to the matchup of two future Hall of Fame quarterbacks going head-to-head.

Column: Brees to dash Manning's hopes for a trophy, ring

I need to mail Andy Reid a gift certificate to Krispy Kreme. Reid, the head coach of my favorite team, the Philadelphia Eagles, made a couple of the most boneheaded decisions I have seen in the playoffs, seemingly because he was daydreaming about the next batch of doughnuts he could feast on rather than watching the game he was supposed to be coaching.

Kole McKamey will not be returning to play quarterback for the UNM football team next season. McKamey announced at a press conference Friday that his football career will be over after five years as a Lobo. He had petitioned the NCAA in an attempt to receive a sixth year of eligibility after he was lost for the 2006 season in the second game because of a torn ACL.

Column: Saints need tricks up sleeves for Cinderella ending

For longer than Kevin Federline has had a celebrity life, the sports editor and I have been debating who tops the NFL quarterback totem pole. Our two choices always have been Tom Brady or Peyton Manning, both of whom will face off in the AFC Championship game. But who wants to wait until that game happens to find out who is the best? I'll let you in on a little secret - it's Manning.

When Andrew Boyens was on the field for the UNM men's soccer team, opposing offenses usually left frustrated. Now that his collegiate career is over, Boyens will be taking his outstanding defense to the professional level.

Two quarterbacks, one game

The UNM football team is in a bowl game, but it's unclear which quarterback will take the reins. Senior Chris Nelson and freshman Donovan Porterie are competing for the starting job against San Jose State in the New Mexico Bowl at University Stadium on Dec. 23.
