Lauren McLeod Basketball Senior McLeod had the best scoring game of her college career Saturday against the University of South Carolina. She went on a scoring surge midway through the first half and scored 10 points in five minutes, including two 3-pointers and two layups.

Gamecocks stifle Lobos

After the 89-18 destruction of the Tennessee State Tigers Friday, UNM ultimately fell to the University of South Carolina Gamecocks in the championship game of the Southwest Airlines Lobo Shootout Saturday at The Pit. The Lobos overcame an ugly start and an early 10-point deficit to storm back and give the Gamecocks a match.

Lobos place 13 on All-MWC

Staff Report Although the football team finished second behind Utah in the MWC, it showed its talent by finishing first among teams with the most players named to the first and second all-conference teams. A program and conference-best 13 Lobos were selected to be members of the Mountain West Conference first and second-teams.

by Tom Sena Daily Lobo In the midst of UNM's 69-52 loss to the University of South Carolina on Saturday night, an unlikely player emerged as one of the few bright spots for the Lobos. Senior Lauren McLeod had her best game of the season and one of the best of her career.

If the Lobos are to finally beat a Division I team, tonight is their night to shine. Coming off three losses in a row to D-I competition, the Lobos will look to earn a victory as they play host to the Sacramento State Hornets. In what should have been an easy victory in preseason forecasts, now seems far from easy.

UNM can't close against Texas Tech

The Lobo men's basketball team let a possible upset slip right from its grasp Saturday afternoon in The Pit, losing to Texas Tech 67-58. After Javin Tindall made one of two free throws, cutting the Lobos' deficit to 61-58 with 1:49 remaining, UNM self-destructed.

Pit starts to return to form in loss

The Pit crowd succeeded on two fronts Saturday - winning the heart of college basketball's bad boy-in-chief and returning to its former boisterous glory - but it couldn't quite put UNM over the hump against the Texas Tech Red Raiders. The Lobos lost 67-58 in a game that was closer than the final score.

Knight descends on UNM

Generally athletic teams are best known for outstanding players while coaches remain behind the scenes. However, there is one exception to the rule - Texas Tech head coach Bob Knight. At age 63, Knight is one of the winningest coaches in the history of college basketball.

Lobos hope to keep Pit rockin'

Last season the Air Force women's basketball team had a total home-game attendance of 4,310 for the year. The UNM women's team averaged 11, 896 per game. Although UNM is not a big-name athletics school, it is home to one of the most notorious basketball arenas in the world - The Pit.

Women take the gloves off

by Riley Bauling Daily Lobo The UNM women's basketball team shellacked the Texas Southern Tigers 103-41 last night at The Pit to improve its record to 4-1 on the season. The margin of victory was the most ever for a UNM women's basketball team and the 103 points scored is the second-highest total ever amassed by the Lobos.

Lobos looking for redemption

The tradition continues, as the UNM men's basketball team heads down I-25 to challenge its intrastate rival New Mexico State, tonight at the Pan American Center in Las Cruces. In the 191st meeting between the teams, the Lobos and Ritchie McKay will look to avenge last season's Aggies' sweep of the series.

Golf team's efforts shine in charity run

by Audra Meiklejohn and Jeff Proctor Daily Lobo Junior UNM golfer Jay Reynolds single-handedly raised one-fifth of the proceeds for UNM's fourth-annual Run for Relief. The Run for Relief is a fundraiser put on each fall by the UNM Student Lettermen's Association to raise money for children fighting cancer.

Tindall takes on role of leader

With a deft perimeter stroke and a knack for staying off the media's radar, senior guard Javin Tindall can simply be referred to as "the silent assassin." The 5-foot-11 point guard enters the 2003-04 season with a little more hop in his step and poise in his voice than he had last year.

Lobos look to keep win streak rolling

Not since Dave Bliss' final season in 1998-1999 has the UNM men's basketball team started the regular season 2-0. Led by head coach Ritchie McKay, the Lobos have begun their season with lopsided victories over Division II teams San Francisco State and New Mexico Highlands, en route to their best start in five years.

Athletes of the Week

Lindsey Arndt Junior Basketball Arndt set a personal best in Saturday's game against Villanova, scoring a career-high 21 points. She also dominated the boards with 11 rebounds, resulting in the second double double of her career. Despite Arndt's best efforts, UNM fell to the Wildcats 70-57.

by Phil Parker Daily Lobo The Lobos suffered their first loss of the season Saturday night, falling to Villanova 70-57 in the championship game of the Holiday Inn Mountain View Lobo Invitational. The tournament was Friday and Saturday at The Pit.

Anti-gay policy at odds with UNM

Despite the U.S. military's openly anti-gay policies it is allowed to actively recruit on college campuses across the country, including UNM. The Department of Defense's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy authorizes the termination of servicemen and women based solely on their sexual preference.

Off and running

When UNM head coach Don Flanagan said the women's basketball team is a deep squad this year, he wasn't kidding. In fact, the young Lobo team may have finally stepped out of the shadow of last season's Mountain West Conference championship team, by defeating the USC Trojans, who beat UNM in last year's season opener.

Lobos finish season strong

Staff Report UNM controlled both sides of the ball Saturday in Laramie, dismantling Wyoming 26-3 in brutally cold conditions. Lobo tailback DonTrell Moore rushed for 153 yards and caught a touchdown pass, while D.D. Cox also contributed with 127 ground yards and a 1-yard touchdown of his own.
