Where are our priorities? Has anyone checked the salary of UNM professors lately, or the ongoing struggle of our part-time professors who receive few if any benefits? The men's team has produced several players who have no regard for UNM rules or the laws of our society.

Alford, officially introduced as the new UNM men's basketball head coach on Friday, will be making an annual salary of $975,000 - nearly twice the amount of former head coach Ritchie McKay, who was fired Feb. 22. UNM Athletics Director Paul Krebs said Alford's salary is necessary if the Lobos are going to be one of the elite teams in the nation. "We aspire to have a great basketball program," he said. "We aspire to compete with the best. And if you want to compete with the best, you need to pay the best, and that's what we're willing to do."
The UNM baseball team will have extra motivation to pick up its next win. The Lobos kicked off Mountain West Conference play at home this weekend, dropping 2-of-3 games to Utah at Isotopes Park on Sunday.
Ritchie McKay didn't take too long to find a new home. The former UNM men's basketball head coach - who was fired Feb. 22 - will be coaching Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va., according to several news sources.
