It was too early Saturday morning. Tired and bitter, I picked up my friend Jasmine to begin our trip to White Sands. We met up with the photographer, Harrison Brooks, and his two friends; one a transfer student from New Jersey and the other a Harry Potter look-alike from southern New Mexico. We blasted "Road Runner #1" by the Original Modern Lovers as we followed the guys south.
by Steven Fernandez Daily Lobo When Dionne Marsh was on the court for UNM, she was wreaking havoc on the University of Nevada-Las Vegas. Unfortunately for the Lobo women's basketball team, Marsh spent too much time on the bench when it needed her most. The sophomore post led all scorers with 18 ...
Times sure have changed. The last time I was at the zoo was around the same time I was sporting the light-up sneakers, jewelry I made in Girl Scouts and a "101 Dalmatians" backpack with all the Lisa Frank accessories. "Full House" was my favorite TV show, and I had the biggest crush on Zack Morris from "Saved by the Bell." Weren't the 1990s the best time to be a kid?
Spring Break is upon us. You now have exactly one week to let the groove you have finally managed to work yourself into fizzle into disarray. The remaining eight weeks will be absolute hell on Earth. All is lost. Now that you know you are doomed, try to enjoy yourself.
Spring Break will rear its ugly head a few short days from now. I am going to use the time to get a lot of things done - that screenplay, some house cleaning, read A Million Little Pieces and study for those two math classes I am failing.
After two interims, UNM is getting a permanent University lawyer. UNM needs stability in the University Counsel's Office, said Jo Ann Stringfield. Stringfield is the interim senior associate University counsel and one of three University counsel finalists.
In an effort to find stuff to do for Spring Break with absolutely no money, I thought long and hard. If you really want to travel but you have no cash, you can hitchhike anywhere. Seriously. Just check out digihitch.com. We've all heard the horror stories, and while some may be true, I have never had any problems. Of course, if you look as psycho as I do while standing on the side of the road, the drivers who are brave enough to pick you up probably won't mess with you.
by Christopher Sanchez Daily Lobo About 50 people packed into the Albuquerque Center for Peace and Justice on Wednesday. They were gathered to celebrate International Women's Day with dinner and music. Eleanor Chavez, director of March 8th Women's Committee, said people in Albuquerque have been ...
by Jessica Del Curto Daily Lobo Student Alyssa Pierce never had a problem with her body. "I don't care what people think about me," she said. "It doesn't bother me when girls look at me in bad ways." But when she was 20, she had breast augmentation done. She went from a 34 B to a 34 D. Pierce ...
We were just outside of Bernalillo, on the edge of the desert, when I shrugged and began to fake cold. "It's like 80 degrees out here, dude," my driver said. "Why don't you just shut up and enjoy the ride?"
When I was a junior high student in Santa Fe, my friends always complained there was nothing to do. This annoyed me, partially because my friends were losers whose idea of fun was to get wasted and act stupid, which you can do anywhere. So in an effort to prove my loser friends wrong, I give you things to do in Santa Fe - besides getting drunk.
On March 24, 2006, the Intensive Outpatient program at the UNM Mental Health Center will close its doors. Steve McKernan, CEO of UNM Hospitals Clinical Operations, is responsible for this decision. This will affect present patients of the program, the staff and the 250 patients that this program has the potential to help every year.
UNM alumna Linda Hale said she had to do something drastic to get the University's attention. She pulled $3,000 a year from the University after former UNM President Louis Caldera resigned on Jan. 25. She was also upset over the Feb. 9 hiring of Billy Sparks into a $120,000 a year position created for him.
A battle for Western freedom is being fought overseas. The specific object of the battle is merely a handful of cartoons. The outcome of the struggle, however, will reverberate for years.
Maybe you were planning to spend this Spring Break sleeping, watching TV and eating barbecue flavored potato chips on your couch. You are a lazy bum and should be ashamed of yourself.
UNM athletics director candidate Jim Schaus said if you're going to put the logo of a school across your chest, you want to be the very best at everything, not just the popular sports.
