The UNM Department of Music was recently approved for a 10-year re-accreditation by the National Association Schools of Music Commission on Accreditation. According to the report submitted by the commission, "The commission commends the institution and the music unit for an excellent self-study and optional response, noting in particular its progress in meeting technology standards and in increasing support for athletic bands.
Last November, Sen. Manny M. Aragon (N.M.-D) donated a collection of political archives documenting years of legislative work to UNM's General Library, which already houses the complete archives of many New Mexican politicians. Rose Diaz, a research historian and 20-year veteran of the library, has been working closely with Aragon during the past three years to compile and organize the archives.
An exhibit recognizing the more than 60 years worth of work by Armand Winfield, director of the UNM Training and Research Institute for Plastics, is on display in the Center for Southwest Research in Zimmerman Library this semester. Men's basketball player Javin Tindall and swimmer Aimee Dunavant are this week's New Mexico Daily Lobo Athletes of the Week. Tindall set a career-high with four 3-pointers in Wednesday's 107-49 blowout of Western New Mexico University. On Saturday, the junior guard topped that mark hitting five 3-pointers in six attempts against San Diego State University.
The Pit is back. At least for one night, the stadium that has brought fear into the hearts of so many opposing teams over the years proved that it is still a force to be reckoned with. From the opening tip off of Saturday's game featuring the Lobos and San Diego State University, the fans played an intricate role in propelling UNM to its first conference victory of the season.
