Gas protestors to begin trespassing trial Wednesday

Staff Report Next week will see the opening phases in the trespassing trial of two UNM students and a faculty member who were arrested in April for allegedly chaining themselves to pumps at a Texaco gas station in April. UNM students Jackie Starr and Julie Buckland, along with instructor Bob Anderson have plead not guilty to trespassing charges and will begin their court battle Wednesday, Oct.

UNM goes national for match-up versus Tech

The University of New Mexico football team returns to national television for the first time in 18 years tonight when they take on the Texas Tech Red Raiders at University Stdaium. The Lobos (2-3, 0-1 MWC) are coming off a loss to New Mexico State University 24-13 last Saturday.

Falcons first MWC foe for cagey cardiac Lobos

Staff report UNM's volleyball team entered last weekend as no-names, but enters this weekend having earned the name Cardiac Kids. In matches against Southern Methodist University and New Mexico State University and Temple University, the cagey Lobos came from behind to win in dramatic fashion.

LETTER: Football team in need of discipline, not absolution

Editor, I keep hearing various excuses why Coach Rocky Long and the Lobos lost to the Aggies Saturday. There is no reason why Coach Long and the Lobos shouldn't beat NMSU every year. The Lobos have better athletes, better facilities, play in a much more competitive football conference, have more fan support, and have more financial resources.

Editor, Two weeks ago Bow Wow Records closed its doors for the last time. After 18 years of business, the once great staple of the Nob Hill had finally died. The death of Bow Wow was very personal to me. My father, Andrew Horwitz, started the business when I was a baby.

COLUMN: High drug costs leave human lives out of plan

Developing countries need drugs not only to address raging HIV/AIDS epidemics, but also to fight epidemics of malaria, tuberculosis, and various childhood diseases. But, forced by international intellectual property rights agreements to allow major commercial pharmaceutical corporations exclusive production rights, the cost of those drugs can make them unavailable.

UNM students hit wall with business

A group of UNM students who started their own on-campus delivery business have been told by University officials to stop operations this week due to a conflict with an exclusive food-service contract signed by UNM in September 2000. Barry Schneider, Jesse Kooperman and Elliott Paul, the three student owners of Underground Services, said they should have the right to run their own business on campus or at least be allowed to petition the University for a review of their request.

Information systems get upgrade for efficiency

by Justin Flam Daily Lobo Due to a pending series of technology upgrades, UNM students may have to wait in fewer lines in the future, said Fred Youberg, manager of the Electronic Management Information Systems project. The upgrades, which will affect some administrative processes, campus information systems and other support systems, are meant to increase the efficiency of services among University faculty, staff and students.
