Athletes of the Week

Erchen Theys of the women's soccer team and Junro Narita of the men's soccer team are this week's New Mexico Daily Lobo athletes of the week. Theys, junior midfielder, led the women to a a second place finish in the ProRehab Aces Soccer Classic in Evansville, Ind.

Staff report The UNM women's soccer team swept two games over the University of Evansville and Oakland (Mich.) University to place second in the ProRehab Aces Soccer Classic in Evansville, Ind., this weekend. The Lobos placed behind tournament winners the University of Kansas (7-1-1) based on goal differential.

Recruitment Services working

UNM extends streak

by Michael Beniash Daily Lobo The UNM men's soccer team remained undefeated this weekend to extend its unbeaten streak to eight -- the best start ever for the program. The Lobos (8-0-0) defeated Georgia State University and Southwest Missouri State University during the Lobo Invitational at the UNM Soccer Complex.

Aggies grab state bragging rights in 24-13 victory

On Saturday, the University of New Mexico football team was humbled by its 24-13 loss to in-state rival New Mexico State University in Las Cruces. The Lobos looked confused and out of rhythm for most of the game as the Aggies dominated time of possession and the flow of the game.

The UNM volleyball team got the most out of home-court advantage, winning this weekend's Comcast Lobo Invitational tournament. The Lobos (4-8) rallied to beat Southern Methodist University Friday night and Temple University Saturday afternoon and dominated Auburn University Saturday night to get the trifecta.

Exhibit features Chicano art

Staff Report Chicano issues such as culture discourse, labor rights and the loss of ancestral lands are on exhibit through Nov. 1 at the Albuquerque Sunport. The exhibit, which is made up of three panels displaying photographs, literature, artifacts and historical documents, commemorates the work of several Chicano leaders as well as the role UNM's Chicano/a Studies program in establishing Chicano Studies as a legitimate academic field.

by Barbara Brenner Knight Ridder-Tribune People living with breast cancer wait for big news from the Department of Defense Breast Cancer Research Program Era of Hope Meeting with bated breath, eager for the breakthrough that could prolong lives. Having been a peer reviewer for the breast cancer research program of the Department of Defense, I have come to view these gatherings less as venues for significant scientific revelations and more as wasted opportunities to focus on what, beyond our genes, may be causing breast cancer.

Public space work reaps award

For his work on the study and design of the 6,000-year-old concept of public spaces such as plazas and markets, Mark Childs, associate professor of architecture and planning, has received this month's Faculty Acknowledgement Award.
