Faulty wiring causes outage
Iliana Limn | June 28Faulty wiring caused a power outage that affected 10 buildings on the southwest corner of main campus Wednesday. Bill Tryens, a UNM facility engineer, said an old cable likely blew a fuse in one of three main lines, which caused a transformer to overheat. “It blew smoke into the Civil Engineering Building at about 8 a.m. this morning, which prompted the fire department to treat it like a fire,” he said.

June 28The recent dismissal of a teacher accused of being a witch from a school in New York is a reprehensible return to the Salem witch-hunts, which were commonplace in the early history of our country. Witches, or more properly Wiccans, are no more dangerous, evil or despicable than any other religious group. On the contrary, I would rather have my kids taught by a Wiccan teacher than by a Christian fundamentalist.
