Ad firm founder talks about state pride, family and work.

Steve McKee started out just as another University of New Mexico college graduate would: looking for a job and trying to figure out his next move. Letter: Changing UNM's seal will be difficult, not impossible

Such is the nature of historical power and its retention in New Mexico, student Nick Estes and his fellow protesters at the Red Nation are going to find it an uphill climb to get rid of the intimidating conquistador on the official UNM seal – clearly a painful reminder.

UNM President Bob Frank speaks at the SUB on the afternoon of Friday, April 22, 2016. Frank took to Twitter Monday night to address some of the backlash against the UNM seal.

With the end of another school year approaching, students are worried now more than ever about the next step. Some graduating students may be wondering where they’re going to go from here and, more importantly, how they’re going to pay for it. For some students, Lucy Gent Foma, a Transportation Scholar from Santa Fe, has the answer. Foma is the author of “Funded! How I leveraged my passion to live a fulfilling life and how you can too!” which is scheduled for release on May 16.

Group calls for students to take back the night

“Maybe that explains why I feel electrocuted when somebody touches me without my consent. Maybe that explains why I feel shocked nobody ever did anything about it.” That is an excerpt of what Audrey Tobyas, a junior linguistics major and Slam poet, shared from a personal experience poem she recited at the “Take Back the Night” walk on Friday, an event coordinated in support of Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

Letter: Nakedness should be embraced, not rebuked

I love living naked at home and nearly naked elsewhere, when I am warm enough. Most humans are the only animals who feel ashamed of their naked bodies and feel compelled to cover their genitals. Why be more ashamed of our genitals than our noses? Why be more ashamed of our ass cheeks than our face cheeks?

ASUNM President Kyle Biederwolf speaks during a ASUNM Senate meeting Wednesday April 27. 2016 at the SUB. ASUNM passed resolutions about universal restrooms and altering plans to the Johnson Gym renovations.

Letter: Media is wrong about Syrian pres. Assad

All decent, peace loving Americans should be proud of the recent trip by Republican Sen. Dick Black to Syria. During his visit, the Virginia Republican met with the legitimate and democratically elected Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and urged the West to help Syria in it's fight against ISIS terrorists.  When the Syrian Arab army liberates a new city or town from ISIS terrorists, it should be something that decent people all around the world regard as a step forward for humanity.

UNM is only the third university ever to be awarded the honor, something Associate Vice President of Research and Compliance said is overwhelming.

Baseball: Career day hindered in series loss

The Lobos have dropped a game here and there, which is expected during the course of a long season. But forgoing a series has been a rarity. For just the second time all season, the Lobos faltered a three-game matchup with an opponent. Saturday’s 7-4 loss to ASU guaranteed their first series loss since UNM played Dallas Baptist in early March. Despite the loss, senior right hander Taylor Duree joined the UNM record books with his 76th career appearance, more than any other pitcher in New Mexico history.

Letter: Changing the UNM seal won't make anything better

Can we compare the Nazi swastika with the UNM seal? The Nazis used the swastika to represent their attitudes of superiority toward a lot of the world’s people regardless of skin color. Yet, the swastika is still used by people today. So it would only be fair to believe that people follow that philosophy.
