Cuba explored through poetry

Usually when one imagines a poetry reading, the image involves a single speaker under a spotlight reading from a note card or reciting verse from memory. Santa Fe group Teatro Paraguas is changing that image one reading at a time.

Holocaust memoir gripping

It is hard to imagine what anyone would do to survive in the midst of war. Would you chat up the guards for better rations? Would you lie to other prisoners if it meant not admitting to yourself that they were going to die? Would you sleep with enemy soldiers for warmth and protection?

KUNM: Still Community-Powered

The day-to-day scene of the KUNM headquarters is a productive, community-based environment. Any door throughout the maze of hallways that makes up the third floor of Oñate Hall could lead to an office where shots are being called

Poverty play is poor in pacing

The question to ask, when presented with a story and its characters, laughter, tragedies and success becomes, “Do you believe?” If you have to ask that question time and time again throughout a single play, you might have a problem. The Vortex’s newest production of Sam Shepard’s play “Curse of the Starving Class” comprises many moments, both good and bad.

However, Anne Hillerman has picked up the pen and continued where her father left off in her first fiction novel “Spider Woman’s Daughter.”

The year is 1938 and several students sit at tables, studying intently. The room is pleasantly quiet; the only sound is the turning of pages and the rustling of books. Construction can be heard throughout the building as the finishing touches are put on the new Zimmerman Library.

Quelab fosters creativity

For students who want to learn how to assemble a fully-working robot, find a place to restage their failed ninth-grade science projects, play a restored 1980s Asteroids game — or anything in between, Quelab is the place to be.

Kabob restaurant sticks it

The mix of New Mexican and Iranian décor in and around the Kabab House, and the grilled green chile served with all entrée plates makes perfect sense to Farid Veryiyani, owner of the Kabab House.
