Students should be fed up with behavior of Aramark

Editor, Are you fed up with Aramark? This is the campus food provider that penalizes students who don't eat three times a day, fails to offer competitive meal prices and makes student organization meetings in the SUB excessively expensive by overcharging for catering services.

Band's new album aims for the gut

Singer Angus Andrew broke his leg while recording the Liars' latest album, Liars, in Berlin. "I got hit by a car while I was riding my bike, and I got my leg broken, so I had this huge plaster cast that went from my toe to my hip, and it was really heavy to deal with while I was trying to finish the record," he said.

Division in GPSA's court could have been avoided

Editor, As a former justice of the GPSA Court of Review, I am greatly disappointed that Joshua Allison and Christopher Shank resigned from the court. This would have left me as the sole justice on the court, except I, too, resigned from the court on Saturday.

Editor, While many so-called scientists try to make the unsuspecting public think that global warming is real and a threat to human life, some new data is coming out to the contrary. freerepublic.com reports British scientists as saying global warming could end up saving thousands of lives.

Republicans gather for Pre-Primary Convention

The polls may show Rep. Tom Udall beating his Republican opponents in New Mexico's 2008 Senate race, but the party is working overtime to make sure that doesn't happen. About 1,000 Republicans met at the party's Bernalillo County Pre-Primary Convention on Sunday, where they heard campaign speeches by Republican contenders for the November congressional elections.

Before Lee Emanuel transferred to UNM, everything he knew about Albuquerque came from Internet research and word of mouth. Since moving from England to New Mexico, the junior distance runner said he quickly grew a fondness for his sport's culture and the people in the state.

2 GPSA justices resign over 'fractured' court

Two GPSA court justices resigned Sunday night. Chief Justice Josh Allison and Associate Justice Christopher Shank wrote an open letter of resignation and e-mailed it to members of the Graduate and Professional Student Association. In the letter, Allison and Shank said they felt the court was fractured beyond repair and had become "a rubber stamp for unconstitutional abuses of procedure.

GPSA to stay unproductive as long as Garcia is in office

Editor, "It's done by the semester, if you had been listening" was GPSA president Joseph Garcia's response to a legitimate question about staff stipends over the weekend. For those of you who have not had the privilege of attending GPSA meetings throughout the year, this sort of behavior has been the trademark of Garcia, Finance Chairman Isaac Padilla and others.

UNM counts on defense to secure double-digit victory

The UNM men's basketball team struggled from the free-throw line and wasn't as lethal as usual from 3-point range. So, in Saturday's 64-48 win over TCU, the Lobos clamped down on defense, leading to their fourt h straight double-digit victory. UNM freshman guard Jonathan Wills said the defense wanted to set a tone, especially after a close first half.

Bridge repairs allow reopening of monument SILVER CITY (AP) - Temporary repairs to a bridge damaged by flooding more than two weeks ago allowed the reopening of Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument, monument Superintendent Steve Riley said Saturday. The state Department of Transportation completed temporary repairs to the West Fork bridge on Thursday, allowing access to the cliff dwellings, Upper and Lower Scorpion Campgrounds and other sites in the area.

Holding events based on race promotes prejudice

Editor, The letter by Peter Lynch published in the Daily Lobo on Tuesday regarding separate ceremonies and events based on race raises a valid question: "Are you doing more harm than good by these actions?" It took many years and great courage to finally end the injustice of segregation based on race.

Lobos trounce TCU for 20th win

The UNM men's basketball team notched its fourth-straight conference win after toppling TCU 64-48 on Saturday at The Pit. The win puts the Lobos in third place in the Mountain West Conference standings. They improved to 20-6 overall and 7-4 in the conference.

Car-bashing not best way to express school spirit

Editor, This letter is in response to the "Lobolition" to be held March 4 where students can vent their frustrations on a salvage vehicle to benefit the athletic clubs. In a way to show school spirit, students are invited to take a bat and have at it. I personally do not understand the violent and wasteful display.

Men's basketball The UNM men's basketball team is riding a wave of momentum heading into Saturday's contest with TCU at The Pit. The Lobos have won three straight conference matchups. UNM is coming off of a 73-63 road win over San Diego State on Wednesday.
