Business students win $25,000 prize

A good idea is worth at least $25,000. Students Ryan Smith and Scott Lovald found that out on Friday. The Anderson Schools of Management held New Mexico's first Universitywide Technology Business Plan Competition, in which 17 teams competed for the top prize of $25,000.

Freshman's arm a weapon at meet

Freshman Anthony Fairbanks has not taken long to prove he can compete at the collegiate level. At this weekend's Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, Fairbanks finished second out of 18 with a throw of 210-9. The throw was his farthest of the season, and bested his NCAA regional qualifying mark of 206-4.

1,000 immigrants, activists march against bill

About 1,000 people rallied at the National Hispanic Cultural Center on Sunday in support of immigrant rights. Demonstrators at the rally included Mexican immigrants and local activists. The event was in correlation with the National Day of Action for Immigrants, which is a day of demonstrations across the country.

Lobos snag 1st MWC win

The UNM men's tennis team faced off against Air Force on Saturday and left with its first win in Mountain West Conference play. No. 74 New Mexico (10-6, 1-2 MWC) defeated Air Force (11-7, 0-3 MWC) 6-1 on Senior Day.

Letter: Creationists should stop using extinct arguments

I try hard to avoid debating creationists - little good ever comes from it - but Gerardo Saenz' letter in Thursday's issue of the Daily Lobo requires at least a brief response. If Saenz wants to engage in an intellectual debate about evolution, he should avoid using creationist arguments that went extinct long ago - though perhaps he doesn't believe in extinction, an evolutionist conspiracy.
