Slightly Stoopid band, very stupid album

by AnneMarie Mal Daily Lobo Sounding like Sublime wannabes on its latest album Closer to the Sun, Slightly Stoopid definitely lives up to its name. It is no great surprise that Skunk Records, the infamous label started by Sublime front man Brad Nowell, who handpicked this band himself, helped produce Slightly Stoopid.

Profile: Louis Caldera, UNM president

Daily Lobo: With the start of the new school year, what sort of goals do you hope to achieve? Louis Caldera: First of all, I believe in the edict that you should keep the main thing the main thing, so no. 1 of course is improving the quality of education. That's a continuous goal that you can focus on.

Letter:Media misleads public in the name of Bush

Editor, We often hear the major news media tout President Bush's fiscal acumen. How can taking our country from a budget surplus to the largest budget deficit in history by the end of his first term vindicate President Bush's stewardship of our economy and budget? Two major signs of a healthy America are a strong economy and low unemployment rate.

Column: A dumbing down of society

by Lucinda Ulrich Daily Lobo columnist I noticed that every channel on television keeps a little trademark in the lower right-hand corner of the screen. What could the point of this be, except to insult the intelligence of viewers? Are we really going to forget what station we are watching? Have our short-term memories become split-second memories? Are humans getting less intelligent, or is Alzheimer's hitting all-time epic proportions, striking young and old? The more I thought about this, the more I realized this might be exactly the point of the trademark - it merely represents the new low mark in a series of societal responses to a general dumbing-down of the population.

Typical Hollywood film capsized by stale script

by John Bear Daily Lobo It becomes increasingly apparent with each passing day that the future is going to be a major drag. At least if it resembles in any way Hollywood's idea of what the future holds. "The Island" is the latest offering of bleak near-future schmaltz to make one nostalgic for the good old days - the '70s - when bad movies about all the horrible things still to come were at least entertaining.
