Lobos fail to seize victory

The UNM men's basketball team got off to a fast start on Monday but finally ran out of gas in a 75-66 loss to the University Nevada-Las Vegas. Senior guard Ruben Douglas was on fire in the first half scoring 25 points including six of seven from beyond the arc.

Figures indicate student lots oversold

Despite assurances that the Parking and Transportation Services Department takes every precaution to ensure a fair parking situation on campus, official numbers show that the department oversells permits for a number of UNM parking lots. Clovis Acosta, director of the department, said that while parking at UNM has always been tight, officials physically count the number of parking spots needed in a given semester.

In the pop-fueled music industry, it is rare to come across a new band that has talent, depth and the ability to make you feel its music. Memento, a Los Angeles based band has done just that. Their debut CD, Beginnings, may just be the beginning of a long career.

Athletes of the Week

Men's basketball player Javin Tindall and swimmer Aimee Dunavant are this week's New Mexico Daily Lobo Athletes of the Week. Tindall set a career-high with four 3-pointers in Wednesday's 107-49 blowout of Western New Mexico University. On Saturday, the junior guard topped that mark hitting five 3-pointers in six attempts against San Diego State University.

Fans' positive energy in Pit aids Lobo men

The Pit is back. At least for one night, the stadium that has brought fear into the hearts of so many opposing teams over the years proved that it is still a force to be reckoned with. From the opening tip off of Saturday's game featuring the Lobos and San Diego State University, the fans played an intricate role in propelling UNM to its first conference victory of the season.

Lobo women suffer second loss

Lobo upset in Pit boosts team's spirit

by Michael Beniash Daily Lobo With their backs against the ropes and lingering thoughts of a 0-3 conference start, the UNM men's basketball team defied the odds and upset San Diego State University in a 66-62 thriller at The Pit. Led by a stingy defensive effort from the entire team, timely shooting by junior guard Javin Tindall and a little luck in their corner, the Lobos outlasted the hot shooting of the Aztecs.

Scientist's projects recognized

An exhibit recognizing the more than 60 years worth of work by Armand Winfield, director of the UNM Training and Research Institute for Plastics, is on display in the Center for Southwest Research in Zimmerman Library this semester. "I am very pleased to be able to show a few of my interesting and unusual projects, which include images of the world's first soft bathroom, uses of atoms for peace, low cost housing for developing countries, work at the New York World's Fair (1963) and in the 1970's, amusement parks and sets for the Metropolitan Opera," Winfield said in a UNM press release.

Sen. Aragon's archives set to be useful learning tool

Last November, Sen. Manny M. Aragon (N.M.-D) donated a collection of political archives documenting years of legislative work to UNM's General Library, which already houses the complete archives of many New Mexican politicians. Rose Diaz, a research historian and 20-year veteran of the library, has been working closely with Aragon during the past three years to compile and organize the archives.
