After the first half Monday, the No. 20 New Mexico Lobos had more turnovers than points against Saint Louis.

The No. 16 New Mexico men’s basketball team, one of the few remaining undefeated NCAA Division I teams, dropped its first contest of the 2012-13 season Saturday afternoon with a 70-65 loss to unranked South Dakota State. It snapped a 12-game winning streak since the season began.

Kendall Williams went down early against New Mexico State, but he wasn’t out for long. Williams, the scoring leader for the No. 16 New Mexico men, rolled his right ankle early in Wednesday night’s Rio Grande Rivalry game in Las Cruces. He hobbled off the Pan American Center court but returned minutes later. He didn’t miss a step. His career-high 24 points led the Lobos to a 68-63 victory over the Aggies.
The No. 17 New Mexico men’s basketball team made that many against 7-foot-5 center Sim Bhullar and a tall New Mexico State lineup. The Lobos contained their in-state foe to a 32.8 shooting percentage in their Rio Grande Rivalry game Saturday night, coming away with a 73-58 victory Saturday afternoon at The Pit.
