Editor, I would like to say a few words in reaction to our recent religious guest, Shawn the Baptist.
It’s here. You can’t run from it any longer. The only way to escape at this point would be to find a cave and hide out somewhere in the Sandias, but since those are occupied by chupacabras or a deposed Martin Chavez (I can’t decide which is worse), you have to deal with it at this point.
Editor, Building on the bold letter of Armand Huertaz of Feb. 10, I take offense with the Daily Lobo publishing advertisements like the type of the News Stand.
Editor, A week ago, a student walked into class 30 minutes late, sat down, opened a bag of chips and started to text without any regard to how disruptive his actions were — much less the disrespect he showed toward the professor. The professor asked the student for his name and the student lied and gave the professor a fake name.
Editor, In response to David Luna’s letter in the Daily Lobo on Monday, “UNM should not allow hatemongering on campus,” I wish to add a different argument as to why Shawn the Baptist should be allowed to speak on campus. You cannot use the argument of free speech without accepting the term in its entirety.
American Airlines decided earlier this week that it will charge its passengers $8 on domestic flights for a “blanket-and-pillow pack.” Do I really care?
Editor, In regards to Dec. 10 “Doing it in the Duke City:” Before I start, I must say that I understand that the Daily Lobo is a business that must attract outside advertisement revenue in order to achieve a profit.
In 2005, Hurricane Katrina descended upon New Orleans causing one of the worst natural disasters in the United States’ history.
Editor, I want to comment on two of the letters in the Feb. 4 opinion section — “9/11 an inside job” and “Daily Lobo a waste of paper” — two letters that, if truly representative of UNM’s student population, would make me ashamed to be a student here. The latter, “Daily Lobo a waste of paper” was just mean-spirited and sweepingly dismissive, because an error or two had slipped into print the entire paper was worthless.
“I hate passwords!” “I hate changing my passwords!” “Yahoo doesn’t make me change my passwords!
Editor, In response to David Luna’s letter in the Lobo on Monday, “UNM should not allow hatemongering on campus:” First off, David, in your letter you said we all understand free speech and freedom to worship, but this doesn’t give us a license to say whatever we want whenever we want. Excuse me, but, yes it does. You also said Shawn the Baptist continued to tell the UNM community, and not just homosexuals this time, that God abhorred them because they were sinners and that they were doomed to spend eternity in hell because of the way they lived their lives.
Editor, On Jan. 28, the Albuquerque Journal ran an article about Mr. Diego Arencon, president of the International Association of Fire Fighters Local 244.
Editor, It’s funny how some of ASUNM Sen. Sean Mallory’s quotes in “ASUNM resolution cites Athletics’ accomplishments” echoes words in an Albuquerque Journal op-ed signed by President David Schmidly – both published Friday. I’m glad that Mallory took my advice that ASUNM should chime in on UNM Athletics.
Editor, I believe it was Spiderman’s dad who said that with great power comes great responsibility.
The Oscars are back and as useless as ever, expanding the best picture category to 10 pictures even though all anybody cares about are the front-runners.
Editor, As we all know by now, the IT labs are implementing a pay-to-print policy. This should come as no surprise to anyone who has been witness to students printing hundreds of pages at a time in the computer labs on campus.
Editor, As much coverage as the Graduate and Professional Student Association/Athletics Department issue has gotten at the Daily Lobo, it seems that close attention should have been paid to the way the graphs were labeled.
Editor, “Is there any questions?” to me is the clearest example of the ignorance that plagues the UNM campus.
Editor, What is the editor thinking? The front-page pie charts have mislabeled percentage votes. Are the articles even looked over once before they’re published?
