COMMENTARY: Lobos don’t need a bowl to savor football season

There’s still a chance for the New Mexico football team to make a bowl game this year — it’s just not a favorable one. Sitting at 2-5 and coming off one of its worst performances in the Bob Davie era — a 45-10 shellacking by Utah State on Oct. 19 — the team’s chances are about as good as the odds of Congress agreeing on what to do with the government.

Higher costs to play away

Many schools in Conference USA, which UNM joined this season, are located at the eastern end of the United States. Aside from Tulsa, Okla., every school is at least 1,000 miles from Albuquerque.
