Singles play saves UNM

Behind solid singles play, the UNM men's tennis team ousted rival New Mexico State University 6-1 on Saturday. With the win, No. 67 UNM improves to 9-4 on the season, and 84-9 all-time against NMSU.

Lobos sweep 3k, win pole vault

Injured or not, Jacquelyne Gallegos is going to leave her mark on her final outdoor track and field season. The UNM senior distance runner made her successful 2006 outdoor debut, winning the women's 3,000-meter run at Saturday's Cardinal and Gold Invitational. Gallegos missed most of this year's indoor season struggling through a hamstring injury, but bested the field in Los Angeles with a time of 10:03.78.

Utah overtakes Boston 57-54

Boston College executed its game plan to stop All-American Kim Smith perfectly. Just for good measure, the Eagles also shut down last year's co-Mountain West Conference Player of the Year, Shona Thorburn, in their Sweet 16 game against the University of Utah at The Pit on Saturday.

Player calls it quits for third time

After quitting and rejoining the UNM men's basketball team twice, Joel Box has decided to leave for good. The junior college transfer said this time he does not intend on coming back to the Lobos because he wasn't comfortable playing in head coach Ritchie McKay's system.

Ex-Lobo reflects on year as a pro

by Vanessa Strobbe Daily Lobo Nick Speegle has made the first-year transition from a Lobo to a Cleveland Brown. April's 2005 NFL Draft sent the UNM graduate and ex-Lobo football player to the Browns in the sixth round with the 176th pick overall. In July, the Browns signed him to a four-year contract.
