Cornerback turns tide against Rebels

by Steven Fernandez Daily Lobo Gabriel Fulbright's interception against the University of Nevada-Las Vegas with 1:20 left in the fourth quarter was more than just the play that sealed UNM's victory. To the senior cornerback, it was a dream come true. "I sunk back, and I saw the ball coming, and my eyes just lit up because I knew it was game over if I caught it," Fulbright said.

Season's Greetings

The Lobos led the Runnin' Rebels 24-16 with 1:31 left on the clock, when UNLV quarterback Shane Steichen converted a fourth-and-goal with a touchdown pass to receiver Donell Wheaton.

Player's first goal a winner

Offense prepares to battle UNLV

The Lobos - who are ranked second in the Mountain West Conference in the preseason - will open the season and the home opener against the spread offense that UNLV possesses.

Injury no match for unstoppable goalie

Baseball team hires new assistant coach

by Steven Fernandez Daily Lobo The baseball team added another member on Thursday when Trent Petrie was hired as a new assistant coach. Petrie takes over the job vacated by Mark Martinez, who left to join Tony Gwynn's staff at San Diego State University. Petrie has 10 years of coaching under his belt, including a head coaching stint with Clarendon College in Texas from 2001‑2003.

Grizzlies, Lobos tie in season opener

by Justin Goodrum Daily Lobo One hundred ten minutes just wasn't enough time to find the goal. The UNM women's soccer team played the Montana Grizzlies to a 0-0 tie after 90 minutes and two 10-minute overtimes in its season opener Friday night. The Lobos' game plan was to exploit Montana's defense by taking the ball out wide and then attacking the middle, senior Nicole McCarty said.

The senior made it to the third round of the U.S. Amateur - the most challenging amateur tournament in the country - before losing in match play on Thursday to Anthony Kim of Oklahoma University.

Ex-Lobo's finishes top 10 in diving

Staff Report Becca Barras, former All-American diver at UNM, finished in the top 10 in both diving events at the World University Games on Thursday as a member of the Canadian national team. On the 3-meter board, Barras scored 489.45 points and finished ninth overall out of 33 competitors.

Track star returns as coach

by Steven Fernandez Daily Lobo Former UNM standout Keren Bentzur brought a lot of individual success to the Lobo track and field team. As the new assistant track and field coach, Bentzur said she hopes to help add more team success. Head coach Matt Henry has seen a lot of good things at UNM, and Bentzur was certainly one of his shining stars, he said.

A tenacious D-lineman
