Bitter End

Sometimes a loss might not be all that bad. The 13th-seeded UNM men's soccer team had every right to feel down on its luck following a 6-5 shootout loss to the 4th-seeded Virginia Cavaliers in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament. It's a funny thing, though.

Slow start leads to blowout win

The Lobo men's soccer team didn't look like they were doing much to handle Portland in the NCAA tournament game Tuesday night. Then they turned it on like a tornado. In the first half, it took a goal by Portland's Heath Pearce to get them going. The Pilots seemed to own the ball throughout the first 10 minutes.

Furious P

So women's hoops can pack The Pit and bring home conference championships. There's still nothing like the men's game. Men's college basketball is still men's college basketball. Quick question: What's the most exciting national sporting event every single year? It ain't the Super Bowl or the World Series and forget about the NBA playoffs.

QB sprints Lobos to win

No quarterback would want the passing numbers Kole McKamey put up in Saturday's win over Wyoming: 5-for-15 for 40 yards and one interception. But as Rocky Long knows - he was a standout UNM quarterback from 1969-71 and left the program as its all-time leading rusher - the position's not called "throwing back.
