Seniors Hans Bevers and Jeff Krause have been invited to participate in the Major League Soccer Player Combine Jan. 9-11. There were plenty of resemblances between two players on the court in Saturday's Texas Longhorn win over the UNM women's basketball team. The Longhorns, ranked No. 7 nationally, went to town, shooting 9-for-17 from the three-point line en route to a 73-56 win against the Lobos.
UNM has some time to kill before it can finally go bowling. The Lobos accepted a bid to the Emerald Bowl in San Francisco, extending the football season 40 days after their last regular-season game. The Lobos may perform well following a bye week, but head Coach Rocky Long said a bye month is a long time to keep the ball rolling.

The learning curve for freshman Dionne Marsh is apparently pretty short. In a 76-54 drubbing of the Gonzaga Bulldogs Saturday, Marsh scored 20 points and snagged nine rebounds, leading the UNM women's basketball team to a win and 4-0 record. Oh yeah, she put up those numbers in just 22 minutes.

Sometimes a loss might not be all that bad. The 13th-seeded UNM men's soccer team had every right to feel down on its luck following a 6-5 shootout loss to the 4th-seeded Virginia Cavaliers in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament. It's a funny thing, though.

The Lobo men's soccer team didn't look like they were doing much to handle Portland in the NCAA tournament game Tuesday night. Then they turned it on like a tornado. In the first half, it took a goal by Portland's Heath Pearce to get them going. The Pilots seemed to own the ball throughout the first 10 minutes.
