COLUMN: Construction reigns at UNM

Funny thing I notice as I look around campus. Last time I saw the place was at the end of spring semester, and I had hoped that most of the construction projects would be done by the time I got back. Instead, things are even more torn up, with more orange barrels and fences than before.

Clever lyrics, autumnal music fuel ‘Lullabies’

“The first rock band I fell in love with was U2,” lead vocalist Jimmy Gnecco of the summer bloom group, Ours, confesses in his press release. With a fan base crying out for more in New York, the band’s debut album, Distorted Lullabies has found its way into my hands as the summer draws to a close.

Albums herald rock comeback

It seems as if no matter where rock fans tune into for music these days, they can’t seem to escape from the recurring rap-rock beats of Limp Bizkit, Korn and even new artists, Linkin Park. Fortunately, the pure rock sound of the bands we’ve loved since the mid ‘90s is making a comeback — and sounds like it’s here to stay. Boy Hits Car may potentially be one of them.

LETTER: Protests had nothing to do with job center

I never cease to be amazed by the behavior of people. Case in point: protesters screaming and whining because they weren’t permitted to disrupt an important event. The Barelas Job Opportunity Center represents education and empowerment of the people, by the people.

University earns AAA award

The UNM’s Campus Office of Substance Abuse Prevention received a $1,000 check and an award from the AAA of New Mexico on Tuesday for its designated drivers program.

The International Library of Poetry is accepting submissions for their International Open Poetry Contest. Women’s team loses player

The UNM women’s basketball team signed six new players during the recruiting season last year, but that number was trimmed down one on Monday when it was announced that incoming freshman Kirbi Wilson will no longer attend the University.
