College students are notorious for procrastination and laziness. While student’s grades waiver from “oh crap” to “dang, I’m good”, some try to appease family and friends with white lies but mean something completely different.
The Associated Students of UNM Student Court on March 27 suspended one of their senators for voting on an appropriation based on personal bias. The court sided with a College Democrats representative who claimed Sen. Rebecca Hampton denied the student organization funds because of personal bias.

Let me attempt to disabuse some of my fellow human beings at UNM about the MSA’s alleged support of ISIS.
Associated Students of UNM-Student Special Events is holding its annual Fiestas outdoor concert at Johnson Field this Saturday, keeping up with decades-old tradition. Festivities begin around 1p.m. and run until 9p.m. The event is open to the public but UNM students are “especially encouraged” to attend, said Krista Marrs, executive director at SSE.
Editor, As a co-founder and member, of a politically left student club on campus, I would like the opportunity to speak to some issues that have been raised in the Daily Lobo these past few weeks. I would like to start off by giving some background information on who we are. Red Student Faction is a chartered student club at UNM that has been on campus for one year. Our guiding principles are to critically interrogate systems of oppression and join others in systemically challenging oppression and exploitation.
On March 30, New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez signed HB 170, the Higher Education Endowment Act, one of UNM’s priority pieces of legislation, according to a UNM press release. The bill will allow an infusion of $5.5 million to the Higher Education Endowment once Martinez signs the state budget. Universities and colleges can compete within their sectors for funding from the endowment to attract endowed chairs, professorships and research positions in fields like science and engineering, as long as the school provides some private funds, according to the press release.
The Clinical Training Program of UNM’s School of Law has been ranked 10 in the country in the U.S. News and World Report’s 2016 Best Law Schools List. According to the report, the UNM School of Law has a high law school ranking in clinical training as it offers programs for law students such as the Business and Tax Clinic, the Community Lawyering Clinics and the Southwest Indian Law Clinic.
Editor, In defense of Michael Noah Guebara, the ISIS panel did in fact turn the discussion into a personal attack session against Christianity. As the student who sat right behind Guebara, and also engaged the imam throughout the entire discussion session, I can attest to the fact that the imam was presenting a whitewashed version of Islam that does not exist in reality. There are several points that need to be addressed, but before that it must be mentioned that the Muslim Student Association did not upload the entirety of the discussion – there is an important part of the discussion missing, which is about jihad.
Television shows can be a good form of entertainment, introduce viewers to different cultures and explore social phenomena’s. However, television has its downside.For Robert Burford, student conduct officer for the Dean of Student’s Office, the schedule changes are the worst. Burford said that most of his favorite shows are not running anymore, and he didn’t know what to do with his Thursday nights after one of his favorite shows ended.
In effort to bring awareness to dying and dead languages, one New Mexico artist is looking to her past for inspirations. Last Friday, the Weyrich Gallery opened a new exhibit titled Linguicide from local artist Harriette Tsosie. The inspiration came, she said, from a DNA test she did after rummaging through her grandmother’s belongings. What caught her attention the most was the diary her grandmother kept from 1900 to1968, she said.
The New Mexico men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams won six events at the Don Kirby Invitational on Saturday. Distance runner Peter Callahan, thrower Michael Ellis, jumper Logan Pfilsben and distance runner Sophie Connor all claimed gold, while the UNM’s men’s and women’s 4x400 meter relay teams took first.
The UNM men’s soccer team earned a 2-1 victory over Air Force Saturday in its last home spring match of the season. The Lobos hosted the Falcons at Robertson Field and to pull off the win after 90 minutes of regulation time and 20 minutes of overtime.
The timing wasn’t right for Austin Apodaca. After being committed to Washington State for nine months, it didn’t feel like the correct decision for the high school quarterback to take a visit to New Mexico and see what the Lobos had to offer.
New Mexico’s inability to find the strike zone late in the game hindered the Lobos’ chances of sweeping Nevada. In the top of the sixth with the game tied at 4, junior pitcher Lauren Soles was all over the zone in her short relief attempt. Nevada took advantage of the righty’s wild outing, scoring three runs in the top of the sixth eventually leading to the Wolf Pack’s 7-4 victory at Lobo Field on Saturday.
Gov. Susana Martinez has made appointments to fill the two vacant seats on the University’s Board of Regents, one of them being veteran Regent Jamie Koch. The second appointment is former federal prosecutor Marron Lee, whose family has strong ties to UNM and the Board of Regents.
After taking the first game on the road against San Diego State, UNM dropped the final two games of the three-game series. In the rubber match, the Lobos made a late run at the Aztecs, but two runs in the top of the ninth wasn’t enough for New Mexico.
