(un)Occupy protester and UNM alumnus Sebastian Pais stopped eating Oct. 25 in an effort to convince UNM President David Schmidly to speak to protesters about what they call a violation of First Amendment rights.

Student Fee Review Board changes members

Graduate students now have one less spot on the Student Fee Review Board. Members of the SFRB voted unanimously on Wednesday to change its composition from four undergraduate students and three graduates to five undergraduates and two graduates.

Fewer free seats for students

Lobo basketball ticket distribution starts today, but students can only pick up two tickets per game this year instead of the four like last year. Also, seating is general admission instead of assigned seating.

Quantum mechanics center

UNM is home to one of the nation’s only university Centers for Quantum Information and Control. The center’s director, professor Ivan Deutsch, said the CQuIC has made UNM one of the most visible universities in the area of quantum information research.

Brittany Arneson, a UNM student who has become an increasingly visible face of the (un)Occupy Albuquerque protests, said she experienced both kindness and callousness from law enforcement during her arrest and incarceration at the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Detention Center on Tuesday night.

Nearly 30 Occupy Albuquerque protesters converged on UNM President David Schmidly’s office Tuesday morning, demanding to meet with the president after University administration said it wouldn’t renew the protesters’ permit to occupy Yale Park.

A newly developed gambling website, Lobo Poker Club, is exclusive to UNM students and claims “it’s impossible to lose.” Arizona State University student Chandler Bator created the site along with some 200 similar sites for universities across the country.

Man pulls knife on Occupy protesters

Police arrested a man Friday after he threatened Occupy Albuquerque protesters on UNM campus with a knife. Miguel Aguirre, 48, was charged with four counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and resisting arrest at Occupy’s site, Camp Coyote, Albuquerque Police Department Sgt.

Hector Torres’ murderer receives 25 years

Ralph Montoya pled guilty to two counts of second-degree murder, and one count of second-degree kidnapping Tuesday in court in relation to the murders of UNM professor Hector Torres and graduate student Stefania Gray in March 2010.
