Play honors death of Lennon

"The Day They Shot John Lennon," written by James McLure and directed by Joann Danella, is not just a play in remembrance of Lennon's death, but a theatrical time capsule of the past to remind us of the political controversies entertainers like Lennon addressed.

$2.5 million ARTS Lab opens doors

by Christopher Sanchez Daily Lobo Ed Angel said he never thought an oil-stained car garage would be transformed into a $2.5 million Digital Media Garage - artists did, though. "The art people just take one look at this and they see one big open space and see what it can become," said Angel, director of the ARTS Lab.

Talking WWII in English and DinÇ

Nancy Montoya, administrator of the Department of Linguistics, coordinated the event as part of the 35-year anniversary of Navajo/DinÇ language instruction at UNM.

Letter: Vendors are a unique part of campus community

Editor, When I first came to the University as an undergraduate in 1992, one of the things that let me know I was in a very different part of the country were the vendors in front of the Student Union Building: the used book guy, the jewelry lady, the Tibetan folks and the lady with Guatemalan goodies.

Letter: Prohibiting UNM vendors homogenizes campus

Editor, When I first came to this campus five years ago, I was delighted to see the little stalls set up outside Popejoy Hall and the SUB selling scarves, dresses, jewelry, incense, wind chimes and all sorts of novelties and trinkets. My favorite soon became the Sunglass Guy, who sold cheap sunglasses - 3 pairs for $10 - to us green Easterners who were unprepared for the high desert glare.

Women get derby rolling

Nan Morningstar decided to start Duke City Derby, Albuquerque's first and only Roller Derby league, after seeing Web sites for teams in Austin, Texas, and Tucson, Ariz. "I saw the Web sites and said, 'Hey, we should start a league here,'" she said. Roller Derby is an all-female sport that gained fame in the late '50s, and was popular until the '70s before disappearing from the public eye.

Wrigley, the official sponsor of finals week at several universities around the country, including UNM, offered students an opportunity to relax and relieve test tension at the Wrigley Gum Lounge on Tuesday in the SUB.

Staff Report After jumping into the top 20 in the polls, the University of New Mexico women's basketball team was unable to pull off another victory against a ranked team. No. 18 UNM (6-2) went on the road to play No. 12 Arizona State University and fell 73-61 on Tuesday night.

Albright, a senior outside midfielder for the Clemson Tigers - UNM's opponent in the national semifinals - and Moss played together from when they were 12 years old until they went to college.
