Letter: Troops shouldn't pull out until Iraq is secure, free

Editor, With the U.S. military's death toll in Iraq rising to more than 2,000, I find myself reading articles stating we need to pull out and bring our troops home. We need to remember these people out there have never known freedom - they have had a dictator running their government for years and years.

Column: Immaculate contraception

by Lucinda Ulrich Daily Lobo columnist So much for being a little pregnant, as if that was ever possible anyway - now there's such a thing as being a lot pregnant. I was perusing the Health Channel when I stumbled upon the story of Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar, proudly pregnant with their 15th - you read it right, their 15th - child.

Letter: Clashes with preachers show need for open forum

Editor, I was there Wednesday when the preachers took the pulpit and began their preaching - again. I am a Christian and am open about my faith, but what I heard coming from the mouth of one of the preachers saddened and angered me. I, first of all, wish to tell the student body and faculty that this is not the correct representation of the Jesus of the Bible.

Letter: Honor Veterans' courage to defend U.S. freedoms

Editor, I ask my fellow students and Americans that we all take the time to thank those who have served in the nation's military this Veterans Day. Walk up to a veteran and say thank you. By saying thank you, we acknowledge that this life we lead and the freedoms we enjoy did not come cheaply or easily.

Letter: Lobo football team must tackle problems to win

Editor, This year, the UNM football team has failed to live up to its fans and its own preseason expectations. The Lobos, who are 5-4 and 3-3 in the Mountain West Conference - and tied for fourth place in the MWC, go to Salt Lake City this weekend to face the other fourth-place team in the conference, the Utah Utes, in a game that could decide the postseason fates of both teams.

Letter: Free health care system promotes responsibility

Editor, I would like to clear up several damaging misconceptions reported in Wednesday's letter to the editor by Mark Erasmus titled "Universal health care plan supports unhealthy habits." I strongly suggest that one does some research before writing a letter to the editor so that objective data is used, as opposed to biased opinion claiming to represent the consensus of the American people.

Letter: Actions of WWII cannot be compared to Iraq war

Editor, I am writing in response to Darren Wood's letter that appeared in Wednesday's Daily Lobo, "Sometimes conquest is the only way to freedom." He compared America's actions in World War II to the preventive war strategy of the Bush administration. His analogy is incorrect.

Gangster movie worth every cent

by John Bear Daily Lobo "Get Rich or Die Tryin'" defies expectations in two ways. One, it doesn't suck outright. Two, while it is by no means "Citizen Kane," it does contain one moment of expert filmmaking: 50 Cent's big jail-house, shower-room fight scene.

Letter: An unhealthy lifestyle isn't always a choice

Editor, Mark Erasmus erroneously believes if people are denied universal health care, they will probably adhere to healthy lifestyles. Right-wing politicians in other countries echoed this attitude before those states initiated universal health care. The New York City Public Health Association coordinated a study a few years ago focusing on other countries' universal health care systems and discovered poor people heavily utilized the free health services at first, but the numbers decreased as their health status improved, indicating they probably had been following wise health behaviors before these services were available and their wellness depended on more than just healthy behavior.
