Letter: Liberals are not at fault for U.S. military failure

Editor, I understand that Andrew Price's article "Liberals Doom America" in Tuesday's Daily Lobo is an opinion piece, and as such is entitled to some freewheeling use of language. However, he resorted to the kind of hollow hyperbole that freshman composition students are warned against every day on this campus.

Letter: Fighting for mascot marks a new low for America

Editor, The letter written by Stephen Kaufman for the Wednesday edition of the Daily Lobo was, in short, unintelligent and shortsighted. I know plenty of people after reading this letter will say the same about me, but let me make some key comparisons that Kaufman made.

Editor, This letter is in response to University of Illinois at Urbana faculty member Stephen Kaufman's letter about NCAA colleges and universities having American-Indian mascots, which are racist or oppressive in some way, shape or form. I would like to join Kaufman and add to his claim.

Letter: Dancing burnout losers have too much free time

Editor, As I ambled into Zimmerman Library yesterday, I was pleasantly greeted by the techno dance music that lately has polluted the air surrounding the SUB. Similar to Venice Beach, which attracts hobos masquerading as "street performers," the area surrounding the SUB has seemingly become the Mecca for loitering burnouts.

Letter: University community should keep on giving

Editor, It was truly heartening to see the way members of our University community opened their hearts and homes to those displaced by the recent hurricanes. Letter: Politically correct holidays don't hide Christian focus

Editor, Halloween was a sad day for some students. Just because a minority of people objected to the holiday on the grounds that it had religious undertones, Halloween was canceled in at least one school in Boston. The tradition of wearing a costume at school that many children look forward to at the end of October was suddenly taken away.

Letter: America's problems stem from ignorance of history

Editor, In his column in Tuesday's Daily Lobo, Andrew Price stated that Carthage lost the Second Punic War to Rome because the Carthaginian government had no stomach for the casualties and feared the power of a triumphant Hannibal. This is either a grand display of ignorance or a wonderful example of twisting history to match one's political opinions.

'Shopgirl' uncomfortably good

by John Bear Daily Lobo People are afraid to be alone. They will seek out affection in whatever less-than-perfect form in which it may present itself. They will cling to someone who reciprocates with indifference or settle for their second choice. "Shopgirl," based on the Steve Martin novella of the same title, deals with this often complex and decidedly uncomfortable subject.
