Letter: Muslims and Americans both want to live in peace

Editor, Yes, Virginia, terrorism is a symptom. It's time to talk about causes and effects. It is relatively common knowledge among the non-brain-dead that terrorism is a symptom, not a cause. And it's not even a complicated symptom. It's simple to see that Middle Eastern hot-houses of terrorism are fertilized with hopelessness and fear.

Wheeling a mile in their chairs

"To live a disability is to understand a disability and all of the barriers," she said, while strapping on her blindfold. Swanson, an employee at UNM Human Resources, helped organize Adopt a Disability Day, which took place Thursday in the SUB.

Lt. Gov. commends oath of service

by Eva Dameron Daily Lobo Lt. Gov. Diane Denish watched about 70 UNM Service Corps members take their oaths Thursday. Members of UNM Service Corps renewed their vows -- and got some new recruits - at the University House. The organization is a campus-based extension of AmeriCorps, a national community service organization.

Lobos prep for monster offense

For the fourth time in five games the Lobos will be on the road as they face San Diego State University on Saturday. The Lobos are 4-0 in San Diego and 15-8 in the month of October.

Worker fired from UNM firing back

by Katy Knapp Daily Lobo UNM is appealing a ruling from the State Labor Board that reinstated a fired worker and ordered back pay. A New Mexico Public Employee State Labor Board officer made the decision in June. UNM is appealing the case to a panel of three members of the State Labor Board who will make the final decision.

Assisting people in pain

Watson, an assistant administrator for the dean at UNM's School of Medicine, is also a volunteer for the Final Exit Network, an organization that supports people in pain who want to end their life safely.

Letter: Group leader's costume insensitive to minorities

Editor, I recently attended a meeting for a student club that will remain nameless, at which I was shocked and outraged to witness an act of racial discrimination unbefitting for any place, and especially the state in which we live. At this meeting we were planning a Halloween event for small children when one of the leaders of the organization decided to share with the rest of the group what she would be wearing as a costume.

Facebook works to restore site

by Eva Dameron Daily Lobo Feel-good rock band Virginia Coalition said it offers a two-hour vacation from the world's turmoil. "We're definitely upbeat," bassist Jarrett Nicolay said. "We're not the kind to dwell, but we're not the kind to look the other way either.
