Tyler Gaus, the punter for the UNM football team, is entering his senior season. The Daily Lobo caught up with Gaus to see if kickers get the respect they deserve on a football team, what he thinks his chances of playing professionally are, and what other positions he would love to play.

Ex-Lobo's finishes top 10 in diving

Staff Report Becca Barras, former All-American diver at UNM, finished in the top 10 in both diving events at the World University Games on Thursday as a member of the Canadian national team. On the 3-meter board, Barras scored 489.45 points and finished ninth overall out of 33 competitors.

Public debates ban on all-ages shows

by Maria DeBlassie Daily Lobo "Mad Dog" Chad Zollo is upset over Mayor Martin Ch†vez's proposal to ban all-ages shows where alcohol is served. Zollo showed up to Civic Plaza on Friday morning to protest the proposal. "It's these kids that come to my shows that buy the clothing on my back," said Zollo, who is the drummer for the band 12 Step Rebels.

UNM radio gets station makeover

by Caleb Fort Daily Lobo Rachel Kaub, radio operations manager at KUNM, said the station's studios used to resemble an aging dormitory. "Until this renovation we had a men's room with a shower and sinks," she said. The reopening of the studio took place Saturday.

Dean to head Health Sciences

by Christopher Sanchez Daily Lobo Dr. Paul Roth has another title to add to his name. Roth - who is dean of the School of Medicine and associate vice president of Clinical Affairs - was appointed earlier this month by UNM President Louis Caldera to serve as interim executive vice president for the Health Sciences Center.

$125,000 raised at athletics auction

by Danila Crespin Daily Lobo The UNM Athletic Department hit a home run at this year's fund-raiser Saturday night. More than $125,000 worth of items were auctioned off to raise money for student-athlete scholarships. The auctioned items ranged from UNM sports memorabilia to weekend getaways in places like Hawaii and San Diego.

Golfer successful in amateur tourney

The senior made it to the third round of the U.S. Amateur - the most challenging amateur tournament in the country - before losing in match play on Thursday to Anthony Kim of Oklahoma University.

Grizzlies, Lobos tie in season opener

by Justin Goodrum Daily Lobo One hundred ten minutes just wasn't enough time to find the goal. The UNM women's soccer team played the Montana Grizzlies to a 0-0 tie after 90 minutes and two 10-minute overtimes in its season opener Friday night. The Lobos' game plan was to exploit Montana's defense by taking the ball out wide and then attacking the middle, senior Nicole McCarty said.

Baseball team hires new assistant coach

by Steven Fernandez Daily Lobo The baseball team added another member on Thursday when Trent Petrie was hired as a new assistant coach. Petrie takes over the job vacated by Mark Martinez, who left to join Tony Gwynn's staff at San Diego State University. Petrie has 10 years of coaching under his belt, including a head coaching stint with Clarendon College in Texas from 2001‑2003.

Player brings world experience to team

Lobos ready to test skills

Locals protest all-ages ban

by Christopher Sanchez Daily Lobo Issaiah Trejo said he hopes Mayor Martin Ch†vez doesn't have his way with a proposal that would eliminate all-ages venues that serve alcohol. "I think it's kind of dumb," Trejo, 16, said. "If there are no all-ages shows, kids will be going out and getting drunk."
