Editor, Thank you so much for enlightening the UNM student body about the inadequacy of the journalism program. Supposedly, the accreditation team is not happy with the combined Communication & Journalism Department. It also seems that the board of C & J at UNM can't seem to step up to the plate and do the job that needs to be done to fix this accreditation problem.

Editor, During the past several months, the UNM Women's Resource Center has noticed, and been alarmed by, the increased number of advertisements in the Lobo which connect alcohol consumption to sexual activity. This link, sex and alcohol, is especially troubling given the trend of binge drinking among college students and the statistics regarding sexual assault (one in three women and one in five men).
Staff Report A group of investigators, funded by a television network and led by a UNM archeologist, excavated the alleged UFO crash site in Roswell in September for a documentary that will be aired Nov. 22. William Doleman, senior archeologist at the UNM Office of Contract Archeology, said his work on the Roswell excavation is top secret and that he signed a contract with the SCI FI channel preventing him from disclosing its results.
Editor, As we all know, last month the journalism faculty unanimously voted to withdraw from the reaccredidation process. Is this the best news for the department? No! Nor is it the end of the world. So what is the next step? Our faculty realized it was better to withdraw than to fail.
Just enough. Usually when that's said about a team, it's a bad thing. For the UNM Lobos, it's a virtue. Football is a game measured by yards, but really it's a game of inches. Saturday, the Lobos got the inches they needed to take a crucial Mountain West Conference win and settle into second place in the league.

The official report from the national council that accredits journalism and communication schools found the UNM Communication and Journalism Department non-compliant in six of the 12 criteria it uses to evaluate programs. The Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications also found two criteria "compliant," with reservations.
Linebacker Billy Strother and the entire UNM women's soccer team are this week's New Mexico Daily Lobo Athletes of the Week. Strother, a junior transfer, made three crucial plays in the Lobos 15-8 victory over SDSU. Strother had five tackles, blocked a first quarter punt that led to UNM's first score, forced a safety and knocked down the Aztecs' final pass to preserve the win.

Staff Report The University of New Mexico volleyball team suffered a pair of losses this weekend to conference foes Colorado State University and the University of Wyoming. The losses pushed the Lobos record to a dismal 7-18 overall and 2-10 in the Mountain West Conference.
by Arthur Simoni Daily Lobo The UNM women's tennis team wrapped up a successful weekend Sunday at the Lobo Invite, taking two out of three doubles matches from the University of Houston and sweeping six singles matches against New Mexico State University.
The Lobos needed one last defensive stop in the fourth quarter and got it when junior linebacker Billy Strother knocked down San Diego State quarterback Adam Hall's pass on the fourth down with seven seconds left in the game preserving a 15-8 victory. The Aztecs made the game interesting in the final minute when Hall and wide receiver Kassim Osgood hooked up for a 39-yard completion down to the UNM 13-yard line with just 40 seconds left.
Despite its 5-1 loss to Brigham Young University in the Mountain West Conference Championship Saturday, the UNM women's soccer team has plenty to be proud of this season. The Lobos finished with their best record in five seasons, 12-8-1 and advanced to a championship game for only the second time ever.
Staff Report The Lobo swim team enjoyed the sweet taste of victory Thursday night. UNM swept the conference dual meet, winning three head-to-head competitions. The biggest surprise of the weekend was the Lobos' upset of conference favorite, Brigham Young University.
