Editor, I read with great interest the housing guide in Thursday's Daily Lobo. I completely agree that buying a home instead of renting is a financially sound decision that students should look into. I bought my first home near UNM seven years ago and have seen the value of the house more than double in that time - not a bad return for such a short period of time.
Editor, I find it extremely offensive that a Baptist student group was given permission by the Student Activities Center to set up a tent, co-opt the center of the Duck Pond and use a microphone to proselytize until Sunday night in a marathon Bible-reading session.
Editor, On Friday, I noticed an Albuquerque Police Department Bomb Squad vehicle, a fire truck and police cars speeding to UNM. Obviously, this raised my curiosity concerning what was occurring on campus, especially with the recent shootings at Virginia Tech.
Editor, In response to Katryn E. Fraher's letter in Tuesday's Daily Lobo, I would like to clarify the events detailed. Fraher claims that the UNM Israel Alliance defaced a presentation put up by the Salam Coalition in Smith Plaza on April 26. The SC constructed a representation of the wall being constructed by Israel consisting of a network of fences with vehicle-barrier trenches.
Editor, I agree with Director of Residence Life Randy Boeglin that living on campus is an experience you will never forget. Residing on campus is beneficial to one's academics and social life. While the dorms do offer great amenities, there are other options for living on campus.

Crum and Paul Chacho state that liberals believe that "with increased government and enough money, they can fix everything ... as the government grows and legislates more of our life, we the people have less and less to say about our personal freedom.
Editor, Caleb Fort's article in Thursday's Daily Lobo about our student affiliate, Spiritual Youth for Reproductive Justice, and their work to assist low-income students with the cost of contraception is a little bit unclear. The article states that the discounted Ortho Tri-Cyclen costs $15 a month and the generic replacement costs $24.
Editor, Monday's letter by Larry H. Crum and Paul Chacho is further evidence of the persecution complex shared by many American conservatives. For people whose views have been enacted in official policy for six years with catastrophic results, it is distressing that they should complain so fervently about being underrepresented.
Editor, How dare the Human Resources Department and the UNM administration allow a consultant to leave UNM and New Mexico with potentially compromising personal information such as my name, e-mail address, home address, UNM identification number and net pay.

Editor, On Thursday, a student organization identified as the Salam Coalition prepared a very edifying and informative event at Smith Plaza in which it constructed a miniature replica of the wall being erected between the West Bank and Israel. The foremost purpose of this project was to increase awareness and to educate UNM by bringing the outcomes of global incidents closer to our community in a diplomatic way.
Editor, The growth of the human population has had a large effect on the environment and its health. As pointed out by Phil Carter's letter in Wednesday's Daily Lobo, we are facing a biological crisis that threatens not only our beloved wolves but all those in the ecosystem, including humans, flora, fauna, animals and everything else that adds beauty to our world.
Editor, It seems to me that global warming is a government conspiracy for several plausible reasons. First of all, Earth, much like a living organism, has natural cycles that it must go through. Editor, Though my colleagues and I continue to submit opinions to the Daily Lobo, it appears that the opinion editor refuses to publish almost anything that even hints at a conservative opinion. The majority of the letters published in the last several weeks have shown a preponderance of far-left liberal leanings, some of which are totally ludicrous.

Editor, I am writing this letter on behalf of the financially distressed and disenfranchised students at UNM who are deeply concerned about the recent tuition increase. I have attended UNM since 2005, and every year, the tuition increases with no consideration for the people who are impacted the most - financially distressed and disenfranchised students who do not have a broad range of financial resources at their immediate disposal.

Editor, As a tenured faculty member who also serves as chairman of the Faculty Senate Athletics Council, I understand and appreciate the perspectives of people who argue for an increased investment in quality, high-profile athletics programs, as well as those of individuals like professor Geoffrey Miller who question the funding inequities between academics and athletics.
