Running back Kasey Carrier and punter Ben Skaer, both seniors, earned College Sports Madness preseason first-team all-Mountain West honors, the publication announced Friday.


	Former UNM shooting guard Tony Snell on Monday was introduced as the Chicago Bulls’ latest addition. Chicago drafted Snell with the No. 20 pick in last Thursday’s NBA draft.

Bulls introduce Snell as one of two additions

Now that the NBA draft is over and the Chicago Bulls selected Tony Snell with a first-round pick, it’s time for the former New Mexico shooting guard to learn the ins and outs of professional basketball, he told the city’s media Monday. Snell arrived in Chicago on Sunday and was officially introduced as the newest addition to the team Monday.

Radio announcer initiated

On an early-season bus trip in February, coach Ray Birmingham and the UNM baseball team put Robert Portnoy, the radio play-by-play announcer who was beginning his new job calling Lobo games, through an initiation test.

Three UNM athletes will compete in their home countries’ track and field championships this week. Triple jumper Floyd Ross and long jumper Alesha Walker, both recent UNM graduates, will travel to Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa, and participate in the USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

MLB drafts seven Lobos

There was never any doubt that the New Mexico baseball team had talent. The 2013 MLB draft emphasized that fact with seven Lobos drafted over the course of three days, setting a new record for UNM players drafted in a single year.

Comeback too late to save Lobos

There will be no trip to Omaha, Neb., for the New Mexico baseball team. A season filled with high expectations ended with another first-round knockout as the Lobos lost 6-5 to Columbia in 13 innings on Saturday in Fullerton, Calif.
