'Defensive specialist' a headache for offense

by Steven Fernandez Daily Lobo Timi E-Nunu doesn't do a whole lot of things on the court that show up in the box score. If there was a statistic for giving offensive players headaches however, E-Nunu might be more well known. A forward on the UNM women's basketball team, E-Nunu is one of the most important role players.

Historic overtime win takes Lobos to semifinals

by Kristie Boudwin Daily Lobo As fans at the UNM men's soccer team's 1-0 overtime win on Saturday ran carrying dismantled goalposts and chanting "Final Four" over and over, Lobo head coach Jeremy Fishbein said the only thing that could make the experience better would be the presence of his recently deceased father.

NMSU rivalry adds pep to Lobos' step

by Steven Fernandez Daily Lobo The UNM men's basketball team is riding a three-game winning streak against rival New Mexico State University. Saturday's game in Las Cruces will be no cakewalk for the Lobos, however. In the 194-game history between the two programs, NMSU (1-3) is 55-39 at home against UNM (4-1).

UNM can meet goal with fans' support

by Riley Bauling Daily Lobo A trip to the Final Four wasn't something any senior on the UNM men's soccer team was thinking about four years ago. Three years ago? No way - that season ended with a losing record and no bid to the NCAA Tournament. Two years? Jeff Rowland said the team's goal was just trying to get to the tournament.

Win sends Lobos to 1st Elite Eight

by Riley Bauling Daily Lobo One fan following the 1-0 overtime win on Saturday night by the UNM men's soccer team got his or her hands on a sweaty, but very lucky jersey. Senior Jeff Rowland scored the game-winning goal in the 91st minute for the No. 2-seeded Lobos against 15th-seeded California State-Northridge, and immediately tore his jersey and undershirt off before being mobbed on the field by some of the record 4,849 fans who attended the game.

Rivalry fires up Lobos, McKay

by Riley Bauling Daily Lobo The University of Texas-El Paso Miners and the UNM men's basketball team hadn't seen each other in six years. Don't think Saturday's 76-72 win for the Lobos was anything short of an intense rivalry game, though. "I think anytime New Mexico and UTEP play against each other, whether it be basketball, football, mumblety-peg, they're going to compete," said Miners' head coach Doc Sadler.

Senior scores 2 in game of a lifetime

by Riley Bauling Daily Lobo Last night's 5-4 shootout win against the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in the second round of the NCAA Tournament could have been Jeff Rowland's last game as a senior on the UNM men's soccer team. He just wasn't feeling an ending like that.

Thunderbirds gang up on senior to no avail

by Riley Bauling Daily Lobo When opposing teams prevent senior Mark Walters from scoring for the UNM men's basketball team, the Lobos get along just fine. That's because Tony Danridge is waiting in the wings. After dropping 10 of his 14 points in the first half of the Lobos' 62-48 win against Southern Utah University on Sunday at The Pit, Walters was shut down in the second, and Danridge hopped behind the wheel.
