Letter: Aid to Palestinian Authority should not be suspended

I was shocked by a letter in last Wednesday's issue of the Daily Lobo in which a reader supported the United States' decision to suspend financial aid to the Palestinian Authority because, as he put it, Palestinians don't deserve aid for electing terrorists.

The UNM women's tennis team fell to No. 1-seed Texas Christian University in the semifinals of the Mountain West Conference Championships, losing 4-1 Friday in San Diego.

Golf team earns 4th MWC title

Jay Choi led the UNM men's golf team to its fourth consecutive Mountain West Conference Championship on Saturday in Bend, Ore., winning the individual title in the process.



Lobo Sandy Fortner took third in the women's long jump with a distance of 19-02 3/4 during the Don Kirby Memorial Invitational on Saturday at the Great Friends of UNM Track Stadium.

UNM takes 1st in 10 events

Sophomore Whitney Johnson soared to a height of 13-00 3/4 to set a UNM women's pole vault record on Saturday. Johnson became the first UNM woman to clear 13 feet at the Don Kirby Memorial Invitational at the Great Friends of UNM Track Stadium.

Zimmerman Library catches fire

A half dozen fire trucks filled the north parking lot of Zimmerman Library after the building caught fire late Sunday night. Students clustered together in groups to watch, as smoke billowed from vents on the north side of the building for three hours.

Men's tennis season brought to a close

The UNM men's tennis team's season came to an end at the Mountain West Conference Championships Thursday after the team fell to Brigham Young University 4-2 in San Diego.


Ex-Lobos DonTrell Moore, 22, and Terrance Pennington, 79, walk off the field after the Lobos' 42-24 loss to Air Force in November at University Stadium. Pennington was drafted by the Buffalo Bills on Saturday with the 216th overall pick.

Pennington picked up by Bills

Terrance Pennington became the second Lobo taken in the 2006 NFL Draft when he was selected by the Buffalo Bills in the seventh round.

Photographing a holocaust

Lucian Niemeyer is no stranger to genocide. After escaping Germany during the Hitler regime in 1937, Niemeyer was inspired to tell the stories of the genocide that took place in Rwanda and Sudan over the past 20 years. His exhibit is on display at the Maxwell Museum of Anthropology.

Maryland signs former Lobo

The University of Maryland signed ex-Lobo Bambale Osby to a scholarship Thursday. As a freshman, Osby played in 31 of 33 games for the UNM men's basketball team during the 2004-2005 season. It was the same season the Lobos won the Mountain West Conference Tournament and made their first NCAA Tournament appearance in six years.
