Letter: Mass media not covering positive changes in Iraq

Editor, This is in response to Colin Donoghue's column in Monday's Daily Lobo, "Mass media fails public," that claims that the media is, for the most part, right wing and biased. I have trouble seeing it that way at all. While there are plenty of right-wing political commentators and conservative-owned media groups, it seems to me that, if anything, the news that seems fit to share with the hungry public is anything but.

Letter: Review shows disconnect from youth, technology

Editor, John Bear comes off like a whining fool in his article on the iPod jacket in Tuesday's Daily Lobo. After wasting the first column of his article talking about how hard it was to get the jacket to work - the only part of the article that was actually relevant, by the way - he proceeds to waste the second column of his article denigrating technology and its rapid advancement.

Guards secure UNM victory

by Steven Fernandez Daily Lobo In a game that was dominated by the big men, it was the UNM basketball team's guards who performed well down the stretch in a 76-72 win over the University of Texas-El Paso. While post players David Chiotti and Tony Danridge combined for 30 of UNM's 76 points, Mark Walters and Kris Collins took over late.

KUNM host leaves radio business

by Christopher Sanchez Daily Lobo Listeners tuning in to "Morning Edition" will no longer wake up to the same voice Monday. Tom Trowbridge, KUNM's morning show host, left the airwaves on Friday after hosting the program for more than four years. Trowbridge said he found another career dealing with DWI issues for the New Mexico State Highway and Transportation Department.

Letter: Public not responsible for elected leaders' actions

Editor, I write to respond to some hasty comments by Tylor Nelson in Tuesday's Daily Lobo. Certainly people blaming "someone else for their actions" is both common and base, yet Nelson immediately contradicts himself and compounds his mistake by making personal attacks in his argument.

Lobos persevere under pressure

by Steven Fernandez Daily Lobo Put Dionne Marsh in a pressure situation and the sophomore forward will come through every time. Marsh proved that Saturday night as she helped UNM in a come-back 56-52 victory over Oklahoma State. The win gave the 25th-ranked Lobos the UNM Thanksgiving Tournament championship after they defeated Marist College 61-54 Friday night.

Rivalry fires up Lobos, McKay

by Riley Bauling Daily Lobo The University of Texas-El Paso Miners and the UNM men's basketball team hadn't seen each other in six years. Don't think Saturday's 76-72 win for the Lobos was anything short of an intense rivalry game, though. "I think anytime New Mexico and UTEP play against each other, whether it be basketball, football, mumblety-peg, they're going to compete," said Miners' head coach Doc Sadler.

Letter: Liberals have fought to end workplace discrimination

Editor, Regarding the lawsuit against KUNM, I will reserve judgment until all the facts are in, but we liberals invented the concept of a hostile work environment. We made a major point out of working for an end to religious and political discrimination, among other sorts of discrimination.

Win sends Lobos to 1st Elite Eight

by Riley Bauling Daily Lobo One fan following the 1-0 overtime win on Saturday night by the UNM men's soccer team got his or her hands on a sweaty, but very lucky jersey. Senior Jeff Rowland scored the game-winning goal in the 91st minute for the No. 2-seeded Lobos against 15th-seeded California State-Northridge, and immediately tore his jersey and undershirt off before being mobbed on the field by some of the record 4,849 fans who attended the game.

Letter: Students should support peers' performances

Editor, I am a visiting scholar to UNM. When I came to the campus at noon last Monday, I was surprised to find that it was the second annual UNM Undergraduate Research and Creativity Symposium. I happened to watch a few performances, such as "Astor Piazzolla and Le Grand Tango Performance Viola and Piano Duo," and the dancing of "Trio, Jessica Trembly.

River of Lights gets into flow of Christmas

by Caleb Fort Daily Lobo Near-freezing temperatures made this year's River of Lights more enjoyable, said Gloria Radoslovich, who attended the event. "I think it's wonderful because it's so quiet," she said. "Usually it's packed." Sculptures crafted out of Christmas lights adorned the Rio Grande Botanic Garden.

Letter: Flawed parking regulations punish paying students

Editor, I would like to bring up a flaw with our parking regulations. Why is it that we are required to supply information about the make, model, color and license plate of our vehicles to the Parking and Transportation Services Department in order to get a parking permit, but parking services only uses that information to bill us when we are in violation of a rule? Twice this semester, I have forgotten to put my permit for the Zia Lot out on my dashboard, and both times I have been charged the $15 fine.

Senior scores 2 in game of a lifetime

by Riley Bauling Daily Lobo Last night's 5-4 shootout win against the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in the second round of the NCAA Tournament could have been Jeff Rowland's last game as a senior on the UNM men's soccer team. He just wasn't feeling an ending like that.

Letter: Free speech censored by left-biased media

Editor, The column in Monday's Daily Lobo by Colin Donoghue, "Mass media fails public," places accusations of censorship on the right which are not entirely accurate. Anyone who believes the left has no voice need only look at this very paper to realize that this is false.
