Crime I believe that we do not have enough officers on the street to fight crime. Community policing is a great idea but we built the sub stations and then did not staff them. We must improve morale at our police department, put more officers on the street and fully staff our neighborhood sub stations.

I attended the public hearing on Mayor Martin Ch†vez's proposal to ban alcohol sales at all-ages shows on Aug. 29. UNM student Adam Hevey spoke at the hearing, with a message to Ch†vez: "I am under 21, but I am a voter, and he would be wise not to forget that.

Center surveys women at UNM

by Aidan Turowski Daily Lobo The Women's Resource Center is conducting a survey to find whether women feel they are treated equally at UNM. The survey began Sept. 6, and results will be available Nov. 31. Sandrea Gonzales, director of the Women's Resource Center, said the 150-question survey will explore the issues that affect women - such as equality, fairness and how they feel about their treatment on campus.

Prof to study the blame game

The National Science Foundation awarded the grant to Atkeson, political science associate professor, and colleague Cherie Maestas of Florida State University.

Hockey team to break the ice

Letter: Legal immigrants hassled more than illegals at MVD

Editor, I read that Gov. Richardson signed legislation into law allowing illegal immigrants to get a state-issued driver's license and also allowing children of illegal immigrants to qualify for resident college tuition. How nice. Since the Constitution of the United States guarantees me the right to free speech, I am going to exercise that right now.

Regents to ask state for High Tech High funding

Staff Report The UNM Board of Regents approved a proposal to request $7.3 million in capital outlay from the Legislature for High Tech High next year. Capital outlay is money granted by the Legislature for purchase of equipment or buildings, which includes renovations.
