Editor, I read Thursday's edition of the Lobo with a real sense of disappointment and disgust upon learning that for the first time in 50 years, the UNM journalism program will not be receiving accreditation from the Accrediting Council in Journalism and Mass Communications.
The recent loss of the journalism department's accreditation became a major topic of discussion at the Board of Regents' Academic/Student Affairs Committee meeting Tuesday. The committee also listened to presentations about the pros and cons of retirement-age employees and efforts being made to prevent students from dropping out.

Roger Lujan, director of facilities and planning, said Monday that a new construction manager from the UNM Physical Plant will monitor the SUB construction to speed the process along. Democratic gubernatorial candidate Bill Richardson made a brief last-minute visit to the University area Monday to sway members of the UNM community to vote in his favor. Richardson stopped at the Frontier Monday to introduce himself and shake hands with restaurant patrons.
On Saturday Nov. 2, the India Student Association's dance demonstration, featuring guest artist, Deepa Ponnappan focused on the fluid, southern style of Bharatanatyyam. Because of Ponnappan's great attention to detail, skill and beauty were embedded in every piece.
