Symposium to highlight ethics in research

Today's Research Ethics Symposium will highlight the most trying questions plaguing labs around the world. "Fostering Integrity in Research" is being held today from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the auditorium at the Centennial Engineering Center. William Gannon, who works in the Office of the Vice President for Research and coordinated the symposium, said President David Schmidly has increased UNM's focus on research integrity during his time at UNM.

A rally to draw attention to the plight of child soldiers in Africa went awry this weekend as protesters waited in vain for someone to recognize their cause. The Invisible Children organization held its third international awareness event, the Rescue, at Tiguex Park near Old Town on Saturday.

Students bring Darfur into view

Eight student organizations are teaming up today to educate students on human injustices in Darfur. The UNM community is invited to participate in Darfur Awareness Day from noon to 3 p.m. in Cornell Mall. Junior Katrice Grant, who helped organize the event, said the genocide in Darfur has been going on since 2003.

Students get courtroom experience in mock trial

But Browning was not presiding over a real trial. The teams estimated that they spent more than 100 hours since November working on their projects for the Waste Environment Research Consortium Environmental Design Competition.

Palestinian journalist to speak Saturday

Palestinian journalist Ziad Abbas will speak in Albuquerque on Saturday to ask New Mexicans to stop supporting occupation in the Middle East. "We would like to raise awareness about what is going on in the Middle East and especially in Palestine, because we think that often Americans are not aware because the media here does not cover what is happening on the ground," Abbas said.

April 11 A UNM police officer was dispatched to Sigma Alpha Epsilon, at 1811 Mesa Vista Dr. N.E., in response to vandalism. Two residents said a brick with two smoke bombs was thrown through a window, breaking the glass and filling the house with smoke. Six hours later, a fire extinguisher was thrown through the same window.

Grad students call for better retention data

Christopher Ramirez, outgoing president of GPSA, has asked the University to confront a problem he says hasn't been clearly defined. "We don't report the same numbers about retention for graduate and professional students who start the graduate program, like how many of them complete and how long does it take them to complete," he said.
