Two teams of UNM engineering students won an international competition this month by designing efficient and cost-effective water treatment processes. The teams estimated that they spent more than 100 hours since November working on their projects for the Waste Environment Research Consortium Environmental Design Competition.
April 11 A UNM police officer was dispatched to Sigma Alpha Epsilon, at 1811 Mesa Vista Dr. N.E., in response to vandalism. Two residents said a brick with two smoke bombs was thrown through a window, breaking the glass and filling the house with smoke. Six hours later, a fire extinguisher was thrown through the same window.

A single rectangular sticker can show lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer people that they have somebody they can talk to about their sexual identity if they need to, said Kevin Hallgren, co-organizer of the LGBTQ Safe Zone training. Hallgren said the sticker, an upside-down, rainbow-colored triangle with the words "Safe Zone" underneath, will also communicate that the person wearing the sticker is an ally to LGBTQ people.
