The UNM Police Department arrested student Kevin Boyar, 19, for unlawfully carrying guns on campus Tuesday. Chief Kathy Guimond said UNMPD received an anonymous tip that Boyar had guns in his room at the Student Residence Center. No guns were recovered from Boyar's dorm, but Guimond said officers found evidence that weapons had been in the room.

UNM alumnus Russell Bonn Jr. had to shelve his dreams after a baseball-sized tumor was discovered in his brain six years ago. The operation left him unable to keep his job, but that hasn't stopped him from pursuing success in a different field. Bonn graduated from UNM in 1986 with a bachelor's in mechanical engineering and went to work as an engineer for Rockwell Industry.

Bond set for man accused of attack SANTA FE (AP) - Bond has been set at $250,000 for a Japanese man accused of attacking an Englishman speaking on "thought transference" during an international conference in Santa Fe. State District Judge Michael Vigil on Friday set the bond for 33-year-old Kazuki Hirano of Yokohama, who has been held in the Santa Fe County jail.
The Daily Lobo has a new editor in chief. Previously the newspaper's managing editor, Damian Garde began his career in journalism at 15 when he wrote for the Youth Express page of the Albuquerque Journal. "I was good at writing, and I wanted to be paid for that," he said.
UNM's chapter of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority hosted its annual nacho night to raise money for cancer research. About 200 students hung out, played board games and ate nachos Saturday. Lucia Cook, the sorority's vice president of fraternity relations, said the event took a lot of preparation.
Christopher Ramirez was elected GPSA president Friday - the same day his opponent, Danny Hernandez, resigned. Ramirez won the seat with 278 votes, while Hernandez got 172. About 8 percent of eligible students voted in the Graduate and Professional Student Association election.
The Albuquerque Kings, a wheelchair basketball team, will be allowed to continue practicing at Johnson Gym. A new contract was worked out between the management of Johnson Center and a UNM group called the Associated Students for Empowerment. Johnson Center management had told the Kings they would have to find a new place to practice if they couldn't afford the gym's annual fee.

Free stuff is always nice when you're a college student. So, every Thursday morning the Free Stuff Guys set up a table on campus to give away candy, Slim Jims, ramen noodles or even toilet paper. Founders David Knuckles and Kevin Linthicum have been giving away free stuff for two semesters.
Writers, poets, painters, musicians and art lovers gathered as Conceptions Southwest, UNM's fine arts and literary magazine, celebrated the release of its 30th issue. Since 1978, the magazine has served as a creative outlet for the University community. Clara Boling, Conceptions Southwest editor, said choosing what goes into the magazine is a democratic process.
Staff members of Zimmerman Library commemorated Wednesday the second anniversary of the fire that gutted the library's basement. The fire happened April 30, 2006. It burned a 7,500-square-foot area, damaging the upper basement on the eastern side of the building.
