Letter: Teaching multiculturalism sows anti-Western beliefs

Editor, It is fascinating to read the half-truths and misconceptions advanced by many within these pages and this University. One of the biggest misconceptions that I've been forced to swallow is that of multiculturalism. That is, that other cultures should be considered equal to U.

Letter: Textbooks contain fiction, not fact, about evolution

Editor, I would like to address those students who have taken or are currently enrolled in anthropology or any other class that teaches evolution. If you don't already know, these classes present this topic as if it were a fact. Let me assure you this topic is not a fact - it is a belief.

Column: U.S. ignores other 9/11 victims

It is now customary on Sept. 11 for commentators and news outlets to revisit the horrors and heroism of that infamous day. The selfless courage of America's first responders who defied terror is valorized, and the thousands who died are re-embraced in mourning.

Letter: President spins Sept. 11; Congress needs change

Editor, At the fifth anniversary of the worst terrorist attack our nation has ever experienced, we must ask ourselves whether or not we believe that our nation is headed in the right direction, and if the decisions that our president and the Republican Congress have made are the best for us and our children.

Letter: Protesting doesn't solve America's social problems

Editor, In spite of himself, Brian Fejer did have a good idea about Sept. 11, 2001, in his letter in Tuesday's Daily Lobo. It's time we as Americans do something besides maintain a quiet, one-hour vigil once a year. However, I do not agree with Fejer's protest ideas.

Letter: Bible advocates genocide; read with extreme caution

Editor, In the Bible, Samson was a suicide bomber. He prayed to God to strengthen him to do revenge and to murder thousands of the enemy. The building Samson destroyed was full of men and women, and 3,000 more people were on the roof. Samson killed more people in his suicide bombing than the hijackers on Sept.

Letter: People should have right to vote 'none of the above'

Editor, The current Daily Lobo poll question asking what the most important issue is in the contest between Attorney General Patricia Madrid and Rep. Heather Wilson totally misses the mark. Wilson has failed to do her sworn duty as a member of Congress to uphold the U.

Letter: Biased media neglects weapon-making in Iraq

Editor, Many have claimed that no weapons of mass destruction have been found in Iraq. However, according to the National Security Archive, there are chlorine and phenol plants in Iraq for the production of weapons of mass destruction. Also, the British government has published various documents about chemical and biological weapons that have been developed in Iraq.

Letter: Use upcoming elections to stop Bush's terror reign

Editor, At some point, one has to hold President Bush - the perennial thief, pathological killer and addicted liar - unredeemable. That point has long been reached. In fact, it was already reached before the first term of his illegitimate presidency, when he was known to have put 152 defenseless people in the Texas prison system to death, many of them known to be innocent.

Letter: 9/11 conspiracy shows need for a U.S. revolution

Call me crazy, but I just don't believe the official story of Sept. 11, 2001. I believe Flight 93 was shot down, resulting in the wreckage coming down in three locations up to eight miles apart. And why did the U.S. Air Force stand down in New York? Was it al-Qaida? Was it the confusion stemming from multiple war games and military exercises?

Letter: Terrorism not only crime that needs addressing

On Sept. 11, 2001, within 148 minutes, 2,973 people died. Today, 1,825 days later, about 2,660 Americans in Iraq, 330 Americans in Afghanistan and about 41,650 Iraqis have died. I know to each family and friend these are more than just numbers. To television networks, they're ratings. To everyone else, it just makes us cross our fingers or pray a little more for one reason or anoth

Letter: Chosen commemoration speaker a strange pick

Editor, UNM is commemorating the anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001, in an odd way - odd for an institution of higher learning and education, that is. Senior CIA analyst Emile A. Nakhleh has been invited to tell us how things are going five years into the big war of the neo-conservatives.

Letter: Negative campaigns depend on ignorance

Editor, I share James Post's disdain expressed in Thursday's issue of the Daily Lobo for the negative ads that we see during elections, but I have to point out that Madrid is doing the same thing as Wilson. In one of her ads she states, "We have been in Iraq for 3 1/2 years and still no strategy.

Letter: Generation will remove Bible verses from politics

Editor, In his column in Friday's Daily Lobo, Mario Hernandez argued that all good Christians should support raising taxes to spend far more money on foreign aid, child health care and preschool. As a committed Christian who happens to support these three items as budget priorities, I am still disturbed by Hernandez's stance and tone.

Column: American's ignore Jesus' words

We are all hypocrites, every last one of us. Every person in every country of the world has been guilty of not following his or her word. This is human nature - nothing more and nothing less. However, hypocrisy can take a violent spin toward becoming overwhelmingly negative.

Letter: Bush's administration relies on scapegoats, spin

Editor, In response to Dave Bergeron's letter to the editor in Tuesday's issue of the Daily Lobo, I would refer him - and President Bush for that matter - to the words of the great wartime leader, Harry Truman. In his farewell address to the American people, Truman stated that "the president - whoever he is - has to decide.
