Letter: Creationists should stop using extinct arguments

I try hard to avoid debating creationists - little good ever comes from it - but Gerardo Saenz' letter in Thursday's issue of the Daily Lobo requires at least a brief response. If Saenz wants to engage in an intellectual debate about evolution, he should avoid using creationist arguments that went extinct long ago - though perhaps he doesn't believe in extinction, an evolutionist conspiracy.

Letter: It's pointless to impeach Republicans' puppet

Editor, Impeach George Bush? That's kind of like a sick joke. It would take longer to push the paperwork through the system than he has left in office. Most of the people who are in a position to impeach him are his sycophants. Any Republican who voted to impeach would be politically doomed, whatever the outcome.

Letter: Less freedom to choose will make U.S. similar to UK

Editor, I was amused and alarmed by Steve Durant's letter regarding America's misguided emphasis on individual freedom of choice. He is indeed the paternalistic product of a unitary, socialist government, watching us young colonial children at irresponsible play.

Letter: Law of cause and effect disproves evolution theory

Editor, This is in response to Michael Weber's rather absurd letter in Wednesday's edition of the Daily Lobo. First off, if you ask an incoherent question like his, all you should expect to receive is an incoherent answer. Also, the Bible is a spiritual book written by a spiritual being.

Letter: Churches, archaic beliefs should be thrown out

It is interesting to see the Scientologists on campus again. Their "clearing" method is like Arthur Janov's primal therapy - memorialized by the band Tears for Fears in the 1980s. Primal therapy can cure a person of neurosis, but the Scientologists' theology looks pretty sketchy.

Letter: Canada is cruel to support slaughter of baby seals

Imagine a baby only several weeks old laying on the floor waiting for his mother to come take care of him. Imagine the terror in the baby's mind when a tall stranger carrying a large club approaches him. Then imagine the unmitigated terror the baby feels when he is being mercilessly clubbed on the head. If the baby is fortunate, he will have died quickly, but more often than not, the baby still has to bear the torture of feeling his skin being peeled from his body as he screams for mercy.
