Cell phones make us slaves to technology
April 17I was glad to see Thursday's column about cell phones in the Daily Lobo, and I'd like to add my two cents.

(U-WIRE) RALEIGH, N.C. - When President Kennedy was killed in November of 1963, a young minister in the Nation of Islam named Malcolm X commented that JFK's murder was a case of America's "chickens coming home to roost."
Editor, It’s difficult to make a case for the Daily Lobo as the “Independent Voice of UNM” when the paper continues to print the fundamentalist editorial flotsam of Jeremy Reynalds.
Editor, Mr. Reynalds, I am a taxpayer as well, and I want my tax money to support public art. I want art to be available in museums, I agree, for public debate and discussion.
As droves of people begin to patronize tanning salons to get a head start on their tan this spring season, one question lingers: Is it more important to have healthy skin, or skin that is bronzed and beautiful?
Editor, On behalf of Andrea Cook, myself and The Connection slate’s senators-elect, I want to thank all UNM students for their overwhelming support of The Connection on Wednesday.
Editor, I was disturbed to see a religious advertisement being passed off as an “article” in the April 3 edition of the Daily Lobo.
Editor, Everyone has noticed the red writing on the concrete all around campus that reads, “I was raped here.” I suppose this is done by a rape awareness organization. However, is this the manner to get your message across?
Editor, Isn’t it ironic that while the Daily Lobo refuses to censor Jeremy Reynalds, he takes advantage of his privileged position as a columnist to promote censorship?
Thank you. That is what I have to say to the 765 students who voted against Amendment One that was on Wednesday’s undergraduate student government ballot.
Editor, A 23.5 percent tuition increase in a little more than one year is another “only in New Mexico” phenomenon.
Nobody can deny that we live in a troubled world. Evidence of that surrounds us on a daily basis: school shootings, a seriously troubled stock market, rampant divorce, a disturbing lack of morality even among a number of religious leaders and the list goes on.
Tuesday’s vote by the Board of Regents to increase UNM tuition yet another 8.3 percent is a travesty. Regents Larry Willard, Judith Herrera, Jack Fortner and David Archuleta — were you listening at all to the group of students outside Scholes Hall? Did you hear the cries of protest? How can you justify raising tuition once again without giving students what they need and deserve?
You. Yes, you. The one with the cell phone. I love you. I love the way your phone rings in the middle of class, two, maybe three times before you realize that it's your own electronic pocket-pal. I don't know your name exactly, but I make up names for you in my head. Nokia, if you're cute. Motorola, if you're a bit on the hefty side. Ericsson, if you're smart.
Editor, I swear, even as college students, we are always looking for some excuse to get out of class.
If you haven’t already voted today in the ASUNM election, do it now. Or after this class. Or whenever you have time.
